Candidates must obtain a valid CDL-B Permit within 6 months of appointment and a valid CDL-B License within one year of appointment. Failure to obtain the CDL-B license may result in termination of employment. Candidates are also required to pass relevant examinations such as Roadway Worker Protection (RWP) and Book of Rules. Failure to pass any examination may lead to termination. Probation period is one year.

Compensation
The current minimum salary is $27.885576 per hour for a 40-hour week, increasing to $39.836537 per hour in the sixth year of service. These rates are subject to change per the Sheet Metal Air Rail Transportation (S.M.A.R.T) Collective Bargaining Agreement. Benefits include paid holidays, vacation, sick leave, medical plan, and pension plan.

Responsibilities
The successful candidate will perform maintenance work independently within established policies, including carpentry, masonry, and coordinating departmental tasks as assigned by supervision. The role may require wearing a respirator as necessary.
Education
High School Diploma or GED required. Must be able to communicate effectively in English via radio. A valid New York driver’s license is required. Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in building maintenance, construction, or related fields.
