Job summary

Red Energy Pty Ltd, a leading Australian energy provider, seeks a General Manager Retail Compliance to own and elevate the company’s compliance function. You will report to the Chief Customer Officer, shape the compliance strategy, and advise the Board on governance and regulatory matters.

In this senior role, you’ll embed regulatory considerations into strategy and operations, ensuring strong risk governance while enabling agile business decisions.

Qualifications

• Significant senior leadership experience in compliance, regulatory affairs, or compliance risk management.
• Comprehensive expertise in compliance frameworks and risk management; familiarity with energy regulators or equivalent environments.
• Proven ability to present to Executive and Board levels and provide trusted counsel.
• Ability to translate regulatory requirements into practical controls supporting business agility and governance.

About the Role

We are looking for a General Manager Retail Compliance to join Snowy Hydro’s Retail division in a crucial senior leadership position. Reporting directly to the Chief Customer Officer, you will take ownership of Red Energy’s compliance function, driving a significant strategic uplift.

You will bring practical business insight and the credibility to present directly to the Board, ensuring our operations are agile while maintaining strict regulatory integrity.

In this role, you will:

• Develop and implement Red Energy Retail’s Compliance and Regulatory Framework, related policies, as well as a structured governance framework and cadence to enhance Retail’s compliance risk posture.
• Serve as a business enabler by embedding regulatory considerations into product, technology, and operational decisions, balancing regulatory obligations with customer and commercial outcomes.
• Oversee compliance risk assessments, drive root cause remediation, and leverage data insights to address systemic risks across Red Energy.
• Act as an independent, trusted advisor representing Red Energy in direct presentations to the Board, Board Committees, regulatory authorities, and Ombudsman schemes.
• Build a culture of strong accountability and constructive challenge across Red Energy while supporting business teams with clear compliance guidance and training.

What we’re looking For:

• Significant senior leadership experience in compliance, regulatory affairs, or compliance risk management.
• Comprehensive expertise in compliance frameworks, compliance risk management, and familiarity with energy bodies (e.g., Australian Energy Regulator, relevant state based energy regulators and energy Ombudsman schemes) or equivalent complex regulatory environments.
• Proven ability to present independently and authoritatively to Executive and Board levels, offering constructive challenge and trusted counsel.
• Demonstrated ability to translate complex regulatory requirements into practical controls, enabling the business to operate dynamically while maintaining strong risk governance.
• Outstanding communication, influencing, and relationship building skills across internal functions, executive leaders, and external bodies.
• Relevant tertiary qualifications in Law, Business, Risk Management, or a related discipline.
