Job summary

Kids for the Future in Pittsburgh is seeking a General Store Manager to direct day-to-day operations, implement policies, and drive sales, profit and customer service goals. You will oversee staff, coordinate with merchandising, and ensure inventory accuracy and compliance with procedures.

The ideal candidate has 5+ years of retail leadership, a background in home improvement or big-box retail is a strong plus, and a track record of coaching teams to meet performance targets.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of retail leadership experience.
  • Demonstrated success in managing teams, sales performance, and operational excellence.
  • Solid understanding of inventory control, scheduling, and compliance requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Recruit, train, and manage store-level staff, including department supervisors and floor associates
  • Set clear expectations and goals; conduct regular coaching, evaluations, and performance reviews
  • Build a high-performing team culture that is aligned with company values and service standards
  • Execute strategies to meet or exceed sales, margin, and customer satisfaction goals
  • Lead by example on the sales floor and support strong customer engagement
  • Ensure customer concerns are resolved effectively and professionally
  • Oversee daily operational functions including opening/closing, cash handling, and safety procedures
  • Maintain accurate inventory through regular cycle counts and audits
  • Partner with inventory leads to ensure appropriate stock levels and product availability
  • Monitor and manage budgets, payroll hours, controllable expenses, and profit and loss performance
  • Identify trends and opportunities to improve efficiency and profitability
  • Prepare and present weekly, monthly, and quarterly operational reports
  • Develop relationships with local contractors, business owners, and community organizations
  • Represent the store at local trade events or community programs when appropriate
  • Support the execution of local promotions and seasonal events
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Retail Management, or a related field
  • Working knowledge of building materials, tools, or seasonal product lines

Description

General Manager
The General Store Manager directs, monitors and assures the implementation of operational processes and procedures and established customer engagement policy to accomplish sales, profit and customer service objectives. The GSM oversees the day to day operations of the store and assures compliance to established administrative policy to achieve inventory, shrink and controllable budget objectives. The GSM works closely with the merchandising staff to insure program implementation and provides feedback on program success and merchandising needs.
