Job summary

OpenAI Foundation is expanding its Life Sciences and Curing Diseases program with a focus on AI for Alzheimer’s. The Director will define strategy, identify opportunities, and deploy substantial resources to accelerate progress in disease pathways, biomarkers, and personalized treatments.

Qualifications

• 10-15+ years of relevant experience preferred.
• San Francisco Bay Area strongly preferred.
• Experience in Alzheimer’s research, neuroscience, biotech, or related fields.
• Strong interest in AI accelerating Alzheimer’s research.
• Ability to evaluate scientific, technical, or organizational opportunities.
• Experience engaging external experts, institutions, and senior stakeholders.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong strategic judgment with bias toward execution.
• Ability to work in a highly ambiguous, evolving environment.
• High degree of ownership, discretion, and accountability.
• Deep motivation to advance life sciences and the Foundation’s mission.

Responsibilities

• Develop clear theses for accelerating progress toward preventing and treating Alzheimer’s by deploying hundreds of millions in grants.
• Shape strategy with the Head of Life Sciences and Curing Diseases and prioritize opportunities.
• Source, evaluate, and recommend grants and funding opportunities; conduct diligence on projects and leaders.
• Engage deeply with researchers, nonprofits, public health orgs, startups, and funders.
• Build strong relationships with Alzheimer’s research and AI for science leaders.
• Prepare internal briefs and memos to support decision-making.
