The Role
The General Manager is the operational and cultural leader of Grotto, responsible for translating our brand vision into an exceptional daily reality for members, guests, and staff. This is a hands‑on leadership role for someone who thrives at the intersection of boutique hospitality, wellness culture, and community building. You'll oversee all aspects of the bathhouse operation—from membership sales and retention to F&B execution, facilities upkeep, programming quality, and neighborhood relations.
Reporting directly to the Operating Partners, this role involves a close collaboration to ensure brand alignment, the development of compelling programming, effective member experience strategy and profitability.
Core Responsibilities
Guest Relations & Experience
- Serve as the cultural steward of the Grotto experience; model and reinforce the hospitality standards you expect from the team
- Be visibly present during peak hours; engage members and guests naturally, building genuine relationships
- Handle escalated guest and member concerns with grace; empower the Assistant General Manager and department leads to resolve issues at their level
- Partner with the Operating Partners on experience strategy, programming vision, and brand expression—then translate that into operational execution
- Gather and synthesize guest feedback; identify patterns and drive improvements
Operations Leadership
- Drive revenue targets through membership growth, day pass sales, retail, and F&B; identify opportunities for yield optimization
- Oversee facilities operations at a strategic level; ensure mechanical systems, thermal circuits, and amenities perform reliably through coordination with vendors and the AGM's maintenance tracking
- Set and uphold operational standards across all functional areas; ensure the Assistant General Manager (AGM) and department leads execute against those standards daily
- Establish and refine SOPs for guest experience, housekeeping, cafe, and membership operations; evolve based on learnings and feedback
- Own P&L performance; manage labor costs, COGS, and operating expenses within budget parameters
- Ensure seamless coordination between Membership, Cafe, Experience Guides, and Housekeeping teams through the AGM
- Maintain compliance with health department regulations, fire/safety codes, and all applicable licensing requirements
Team Success
- Recruit, hire, and develop the leadership team (AGM, Membership Director, Cafe Lead); ensure they build strong teams beneath them
- Monitor HR needs such as hiring, training and employee benefit enrollment periods
- Set performance expectations and conduct regular check‑ins with direct reports; create accountability through clear goals
- Foster a culture of hospitality excellence, mutual respect, and genuine care—for guests and for each other
- Guide training and development strategy; ensure the AGM executes effective onboarding and ongoing skill‑building
- Model the leadership presence you want to see: calm under pressure, high standards, warm and accessible
Membership & Revenue
- Drive membership growth strategy across all tiers in partnership with the Membership Director; own overall targets for acquisition, retention, and referral conversion
- Guide pre‑sales efforts, launch campaigns, and ongoing recruitment initiatives; ensure the Membership team executes effectively
- Monitor membership KPIs (acquisition cost, churn rate, LTV, satisfaction scores); course‑correct when trends warrant
- Identify partnership opportunities that drive trial and conversion; collaborate with Membership Director and Operating Partners on strategic relationships
Community & Neighbor Relations
- Serve as Grotto's primary operational liaison with the Wynwood community, local businesses, and neighborhood stakeholders
- Build proactive relationships with adjacent properties; address concerns before they become conflicts
- Represent Grotto at neighborhood association meetings, BID gatherings, and local events when requested
- Ensure Grotto operates as a respectful neighbor—mindful of noise, traffic flow, and community impact
Financial & Administrative
- Develop and manage annual operating budget with input from Operating Partners on finance parameters
- Maintain accurate records: incident reports and other documentation
- Prepare regular reports for ownership: operational metrics, financial performance, membership trends, guest insights
- Oversee vendor relationships and contract negotiations for key suppliers (F&B, linens, retail, maintenance)
- Ensure accurate cash handling, POS reconciliation, and financial controls; coordinate with Operating Partners on compliance
Qualifications
Required
- 3-5+ years in hospitality management, with progressive leadership responsibility
- Demonstrated experience in at least two of the following: boutique hotels, upscale restaurants/bars, private membership clubs, or premium wellness/fitness environments
- Proven track record in membership or subscription‑based business models, including sales and retention
- Strong P&L management experience; comfortable owning budgets and financial outcomes
- Deep understanding of F&B operations, including health codes, vendor management, and service standards

- Genuine passion for wellness, community, and creating spaces where people connect
- Fluency in English required; Spanish proficiency strongly preferred
Preferred
- Experience with pre‑opening operations and new concept launches

- Background in urban hospitality settings with community/neighbor relations component
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) strongly preferred for Miami market
- Knowledge of scheduling software, POS systems, and CRM platforms
Attributes
- Unflappable: When the health inspector shows up unannounced, a pipe bursts in the locker room, and your Cafe Lead calls in sick—all before noon—you take a breath, triage, and lead the team through it without breaking a sweat (at least not visibly)
- Naturally magnetic:Members gravitate toward you; you remember their names, their drink orders, their kids' names. You make people feel like they belong here—because you genuinely believe they do
- Strategically restless:You're always thinking two moves ahead—what's working, what's not, what's next. You see patterns in the numbers and in the room, and you act on both
- Entrepreneurial to your core:You're not waiting for someone to hand you a playbook. You'll build the systems, write the SOPs, and iterate until they sing. Ambiguity doesn't paralyze you—it energizes you
- Leadership without ego:You hire people smarter than you in their domains and get out of their way. You give credit freely, take responsibility fully, and never ask the team to do something you wouldn't do yourself
- Fluent in hospitality and numbers:You can read a room and a P&L with equal ease. You know that great experiences and sound financials aren't at odds—they reinforce each other
- High EQ, low drama:You navigate tricky interpersonal dynamics with discretion and grace. You give hard feedback with warmth, defuse tension before it escalates, and build a culture where people actually want to work
- Present, not hovering:You're on the floor, visible, accessible—but you're not micromanaging. Your team knows you trust them, and they rise to meet that trust
- Community‑minded:You understand that Grotto exists within Wynwood, not apart from it. You build relationships with neighbors, show up for the community, and represent the brand with integrity everywhere you go
