Job Purpose

The General Manager is responsible for the overall leadership, financial performance, and operational excellence of the club. This role oversees all aspects of the business, including member and guest experience, staff leadership, revenue generation, financial management, compliance, and community relations.

The General Manager partners closely with department leaders, company leadership, the Regional Director, and ownership to execute the club’s business plan, achieve financial objectives, and maintain high standards of service, safety, and accountability.

Responsibilities
  • Serve as the primary leader and ambassador for the club, fostering strong relationships with members, guests, associates, and the surrounding community
  • Maintain visibility and open communication through daily walkthroughs and regular engagement with members and guests
  • Address member and guest concerns promptly and professionally to drive satisfaction, retention, and loyalty
  • Operate the club in a fiscally responsible manner in alignment with approved budgets and ownership expectations
  • Oversee Profit & Loss performance, including revenue, labor, cost controls, and inventory management
  • Review financial reports, general ledger activity, accounts payable, and accounts receivable on a regular basis to ensure accuracy and timely follow-up
  • Monitor inventory levels across merchandise, food, and beverage to balance service quality and cost efficiency
  • Drive revenue growth by acting as the sales leader for the club, including oversight of reservations, tee sheets, utilization, and pricing integrity
  • Analyze demand patterns and initiate promotional, demand-management, and demand-creation strategies
  • Support membership growth, event sales, and utilization through strategic outreach and relationship building
  • Recruit, hire, train, develop, and retain a diverse, high-performing management and hourly team
  • Provide clear direction, coaching, performance feedback, and corrective action when necessary
  • Lead weekly department head meetings and bi-monthly all-staff meetings to ensure alignment and accountability
  • Serve as a role model by demonstrating the professionalism, work ethic, and values expected of all American Golf employees
  • Partner closely with the Superintendent, Food & Beverage Director, and department heads to ensure operational excellence and adherence to American Golf standards
  • Ensure the club operates in compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations
  • Enforce all safety, health, and sanitation standards across the property
  • Oversee facility condition and maintenance to ensure a safe, welcoming, and well-maintained environment
  • Act as the club’s community liaison by engaging with local organizations, special interest groups, and partners to support membership and event growth
  • Maintain strong working relationships with ownership and represent American Golf Corporation professionally and transparently
  • Perform other related duties as assigned to support business needs and organizational objectives
  • 4-year college degree or equivalent experience required
Qualifications
  • Minimum of 5 years of Manager experience in the golf industry
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience working in the golf industry
  • PGA or LPGA certification preferred
  • 1–2 years of experience managing food and beverage operations of $1M or more
  • 2–3 years of experience managing financials, including P&L statements
  • Proven ability to develop and execute financial and operational plans
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills
  • Experience conducting performance evaluations and managing employee relations
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Experience with CRM systems, Point of Sale systems, and timekeeping platforms (ADP/Kronos preferred)
  • Familiarity with collaboration tools such as MS Teams, Zoom, and Workplace
  • Working knowledge of social media platforms including LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, and others
Working Conditions
  • Work schedule varies based on business needs; evenings, weekends, and holidays are required
  • Physical requirements include standing, walking, bending, reaching, lifting, pushing, and pulling up to 50 pounds
  • Vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus
  • Exposure to outdoor weather conditions, moving mechanical parts, cleaning chemicals, electrical components, and moderate noise levels
