Job summary

Southwind, the largest franchise partner of 1-800-GOT-JUNK?, is expanding in Grand Rapids. We seek a hands-on General Manager who spends about three days weekly on the trucks with the crew, delivering world-class junk removal and coaching the team in real time.

You’ll drive local growth, oversee scheduling, fleet upkeep, and profitability, while building a culture of accountability and grit. This role blends field leadership with strategic operations to build a strong local brand.

Qualifications

• Leadership experience in a supervisory role (service, logistics, or equivalent).
• Strong communication and people-management skills.
• Ability to read P&L statements and drive local growth.

Responsibilities

Southwind, the largest franchise partner of 1-800-GOT-JUNK?, is expanding. We aren't looking for a manager who wants to sit behind a desk all day. In our Grand Rapids market, we need a hands-on leader—someone who thrives on variety and isn't afraid to get their hands dirty.

As the General Manager, you are the heartbeat of the operation. You’ll spend roughly 3 days a week in the field, working alongside your team, hauling junk, and engaging with customers, while spending the rest of your time driving the strategic growth of the business.

Location: Grand Rapids, MI

Pay Range: $80,000 - $85,000 Base Salary + Additional Bonus Potential

Key Responsibilities

Field Leadership (The "Player" Role)

• Lead by Example: Spend at least 3 days per week on the trucks, performing junk removal services alongside your frontline team to ensure "World Class" service.
• On-the-Job Training: Use your time in the field to coach teammates on sales, safety, and efficiency in real-time.
• Customer Experience: Be the face of the brand in the Grand Rapids community, ensuring every job exceeds expectations.

Operational Excellence (The "Coach" Role)

• Business Growth: Develop and execute local marketing and sales strategies to dominate the Grand Rapids market.
• P&L Management: Oversee the "business of the business"—managing labor costs, fleet maintenance, and profitability.
• Team Building: Recruit, hire, and mentor a high-performing crew. You aren't just managing employees; you’re building a culture of accountability and grit.
• Logistics & Safety: Oversee daily scheduling and fleet management while maintaining strict adherence to safety standards.

Qualifications

• Leadership Experience: Proven track record in a leadership role (service industry, logistics, or military experience is a plus).
• Business Acumen: Ability to read a P&L and make data-driven decisions to grow the branch.
• Communication: Strong interpersonal skills—you can talk to a CEO just as easily as you can motivate a team of college students on a job site.
• Education: Bachelor’s degree preferred, but equivalent experience is highly valued.
