Job summary

SSA Careers seeks a General Manager, Portside and OmniTranz, to direct warehousing and brokerage operations, align strategic plans with budgets, and supervise senior leaders. This role bridges senior leadership and staff, guiding policy, safety, and performance across operations and commercial functions.

You will oversee budgeting, resource allocation, and data reporting, while driving continuous improvement and customer retention in a dynamic port environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
• 7-10 years of container freight station experience in senior roles.
• Thorough knowledge of warehousing, brokerage, and terminal operations and regulations.
• CPR certification, driver's license, and TWIC card required.
• Proven leadership skills.
• Experience with computerized operating systems.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and computerized operating systems.
• Knowledge of safety and accident prevention codes, practices, and regulations.
• Knowledge and understanding of cargo stowage and stability strongly desired.
• Knowledge of warehousing and brokerage technologies and systems strongly desired.

Responsibilities

• Supervise direct reports to ensure work is completed consistently and in alignment with organizational requirements, standards, and goals.
• Work with Operations Leadership to develop policies, procedures, and processes to assist operations in following customer requirements and expectations.
• Ensure that staff members comply with administrative policies and procedures, safety rules, and government regulations.
• Participate in the resolution of on-the-job grievances and support effective labor relations.
• Work with the commercial team when quoting and establishing contracts.
• Responsible for developing plans and strategies for retaining customers, developing new business, and achieving established sales goals, in coordination with the Commercial team.
• Monitor customer, market, and competitor activity and provide feedback to regional leadership teams and other company functions.
• Maintain regular customer engagement to support satisfaction, strengthen relationships, and address concerns in a timely and effective manner.

The General Manager, Portside and OmniTranz directs warehousing and brokerage operations by supervising, training, coaching, and disciplining lower-level managers. They align company goals with actionable strategic plans, departmental efficiency appraisals, and targeted worker incentives. Serving as a central bridge between senior leadership and direct reports, the General Manager also oversees resource allocation, managing budgets for supplies, equipment, and staffing.

Essential Responsibilities

• Supervise direct reports to ensure work is completed consistently and in alignment with organizational requirements, standards, and goals.
• Work with Operations Leadership to develop policies, procedures, and processes to assist operations in following customer requirements and expectations. Ensure correct tools are in place and assist in acquiring anything needed to promote successful, safe, and productive operations.
• Ensure that staff members comply with administrative policies and procedures, safety rules, and government regulations.
• Participate in the resolution of on-the-job grievances and support effective labor relations.
• Work with the commercial team when quoting and establishing contracts.
• Responsible for developing plans and strategies for retaining customers, developing new business, and achieving established sales goals, in coordination with the Commercial team.
• Monitor customer, market, and competitor activity and provide feedback to regional leadership teams and other company functions.

• Monitor spending to ensure that expenses are consistent with approved budgets.
• Analyze expenditures and other financial information to develop plans, policies, and budgets for increasing profits and improving services.
• Review and analyze P&L statements to support the development of plans, policies, and budgets that improve profitability and service delivery.
• Collaborate with the HSE Department to promote safe work practices through safety audits, participation in company safety meetings, and direct engagement with staff members.
• Integrate technology solutions into operations, streamline SOPs, and improve data reporting between ports. Work with local teams to set achievable goals and metrics.
• Promote safe work activities by conducting safety audits, attending company safety meetings, and meeting with individual staff members.
• Set operations policies and standards, including determination of safety procedures.
• Implement schedule and policy changes.
• Ensure that continuous improvement is being made concerning policies, procedures, goals, and objectives.
• All other duties as assigned.

Salary Range

$120,000-160,000 per year

The posted compensation range is based on the applicable geographic market for the position and may vary depending on factors such as related experience and skill set. Final compensation will be determined based on these items and other relevant factors.
