Job summary

MERS Missouri Goodwill is seeking an energetic General Manager for the Cape Girardeau Store team. The role focuses on overseeing store operations, budgets, staff training, and delivering exceptional customer service to donors and shoppers.

The ideal candidate will have leadership experience, strong communication skills, and the ability to motivate a team while upholding our values and safety standards. A competitive hourly rate plus bonus potential is offered.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required; Bachelor's preferred.
• Three years of Retail, Warehouse, or Logistics Management and a Valid MO or IL state driver’s license and insurance are required.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills include customer service, conflict resolution, and teamwork.
• Leadership skills include quality decision-making, goal-setting, and problem-solving, with the ability to motivate and lead employees and hold them accountable.
• Comfortable with workplace technology like registers, scheduling, and inventory management software.

Responsibilities

• Overseeing store operations, resources, and budgets to meet or exceed goals.
• Model core values to ensure safety, ethics, and quality in the store.
• Supervise, direct, and train staff and ensure core duties are performed.
• Provide superior customer service to ensure donor and shopper retention and quickly de-escalate issues.
• Coach employees on performance, including disciplinary actions when needed.
• Assign daily duties to achieve operational tasks and monitor progress.
• Identify and promote high performers for advancement.
• Protect company property and report theft or misconduct promptly.
• Read, follow, and enforce all agency policies and processes.
• Utilize staffing methods to ensure adequate coverage and manage payroll approvals.
• Eliminate waste through process improvements.
• Maintain professional appearance per dress code.
• Other duties as assigned.

Primary Duties/Responsibilities

• Overseeing store operations, resources, and budgets to ensure all goals and benchmarks are met or exceeded.
• Model core values to establish a culture with an understanding and commitment to safety, ethics, and quality within the store.
• Supervise, direct, and train assigned staff and ensure they perform their essential/primary functions.
• Provide superior internal and external customer service to ensure repeat donors, shoppers, and staff retention and de-escalate customer dissatisfaction quickly and effectively.
• Coach and counsel employees concerning the performance of their job duties, including discipline up to and including termination.
• Exercise independent judgment in assigning daily job duties to achieve daily operational tasks.
• Helps to identify and recommend employees with proven performance for advancement.
• Safeguards company property and personal information from harm, damage, or theft. Reports any theft, misappropriation, unethical/inappropriate behavior, or unauthorized possession of company property to a member of management, Human Resources, or Risk Management.
• Must read, follow, model, and enforce all agency policies, procedures, and values.
• Utilizes efficient staffing methods to ensure the store is staffed appropriately. Arranges for replacements of absent employees when necessary. Audits, edits, and approves payroll.
• Eliminates wasteful practices through process improvement.
• Maintains a professional appearance, adhering to MERS Goodwill’s dress code.
• Other duties as assigned.
