Job summary

EMCOR Government Services has an immediate need for a General Maintenance Worker in Washington, DC. The work schedule is Sunday - Thursday, 7:00am to 3:00pm. This position is covered by the CBA for Local 99.

The role involves assisting crafts personnel with minor building maintenance tasks across HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and related systems. Strict safety practices apply, and the team supports a broad range of facilities.

Qualifications

  • Three to five years of experience operating central plant equipment, HVAC, mechanical, plumbing, electrical, or electronic systems.
  • Experience and proven ability to safely secure electrical systems for maintenance.
  • Basic carpentry skills.
  • Basic knowledge of operation of building auxiliary systems such as fire-life safety and standby generators.
  • Strong knowledge of safe work practices for maintenance operations.
  • Ability to understand written and oral instructions to perform the work required.
  • Ability to wear a respirator, climb ladders, enter confined spaces, lift heavy objects, and perform physically demanding tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Assist crafts personnel in minor building maintenance tasks including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and related systems.
  • Perform preventive maintenance such as changing filters, cleaning coils and drains, and replacing bulbs where needed.
  • Replace ceiling tiles and perform minor carpentry repairs as required.
  • Empty drip pans and perform snow removal as part of shift duties.
  • Follow directions from the shift lead or manager and perform other duties as required.

Job Summary

EMCOR Government Services has an immediate need for a General Maintenance Worker in Washington, DC. The work initial schedule is: Sunday - Thursday: 7:00am to 3:00pm. Must be able to work other schedules as well. This position is covered by the CBA for Local 99.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Assisting the Crafts personnel in minor building maintenance tasks. These tasks include but are not limited to: making minor adjustment and repairs to HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and sewage systems; architectural and structural building components; interior and exterior entrance doors; all door locks, windows, floors systems, roof systems, roof gutters, downspouts, window and floor coverings.
  • Performing some minor preventive maintenance functions while under supervision, such as but not limited to changing filters; cleaning cooler towers, heating and cooling coils; cleaning floor drains, grease traps, roof gutters, downspouts; and changing fluorescent tubes and other light bulbs where needed.
  • Replace ceiling tiles and make necessary and minor carpentry repairs as needed.
  • Empty drip pans throughout the facility.
  • Perform snow removal
  • Performs other duties as required or directed by the shift lead or manager on duty.
Qualifications

  • Strong knowledge of safe work practices and procedures typical for maintenance operations
  • Be able to understand written and oral instructions to perform the work required.
  • Ability to safely wear a respirator, climb ladders, enter confined spaces, lift heavy objects and perform other physically demanding tasks.
  • Safely and skillfully use all types of related hand and power tools.
Physical Demands
  • Work Heavy physical effort (lift/carry up to 75lbs)
  • Prolong, extensive or considerable standing/walking.
  • Push/pull or move/lift equipment, supplies.
  • Manual dexterity and mobility.
  • Considerable reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling, and crouching.
