Job Summary

The General Maintenance Worker is responsible for general maintenance and repair services of the hospital buildings, physical plant, equipment, offices and patient care areas. Duties include fixing and maintaining machines, mechanical equipment, and buildings. Responsibilities also include repairing flooring and carpeting; working on plumbing, electrical, and air‑conditioning/heating systems; and helping with painting jobs.

Licensure And Certification

• A valid CA driver’s license required
• Applicable license/certification related to assigned work area preferred (optional)

Education

• High School diploma or GED required
• Completion of a trade or vocational program in building maintenance or a related field, or 1 year of equivalent experience may be substituted for formal education requirements

Experience

• Minimum 1 year of related work experience; preferably in a healthcare setting
• Preferred experience working with standard practices, procedures, and tools in the general building/maintenance trades

Knowledge And Skills

• Knowledge of materials, equipment, and tools related to plumbing, electrical, HVAC codes/systems, and carpentry work
• Knowledge of state and local codes and standards, as well as safety and compliance regulations, including OSHA & DNV
• Ability to read blueprints and mechanical drawings
• Accurately estimate materials required to complete projects
• Ability to maintain accurate repair and maintenance records
• Ability to operate a variety of hand and power tools in a safe and effective manner
• Skilled in communicating verbally and in writing, obtaining clear and concise information, and understanding/accepting directions
