Terrestris Global Solutions seeks a General Maintenance Worker to support USDA Forest Service facilities and recreation areas in Mars Hill, NC. You will assist with operation, maintenance, and repairs of facilities, grounds, and constructed features, covering carpentry, plumbing, masonry, painting, electrical, and landscaping tasks.

The role involves routine site maintenance, safety inspections, equipment operation, and occasional travel to project locations.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• 5+ years of experience in relevant trades.
• Authorization to work in the U.S. permanently without sponsorship.
• Proven skills across trades such as carpentry, plumbing, masonry, painting, electrical, and landscaping.

Responsibilities

• Assist with operation, maintenance, and repairs of facilities, structures, and grounds.
• Perform routine maintenance on campground sites and trails using tools and equipment.
• Inspect safety hazards and perform repairs to keep facilities in good condition.
• Replace signs, site furnishings, and minor infrastructure as needed.

What will the General Maintenance Worker at Terrestris do?

As the General Maintenance Worker, you will assist with the operation, maintenance, and repairs of the facilities, constructed features, and grounds found within recreation areas and administrative facilities.

What does a typical day look like for the General Maintenance Worker?

• Perform simple and routine work involved in the maintenance andrepair of grounds, exterior structures, buildings, and related utilities,requiring the use of a variety of trade practices associated with occupationssuch as carpentry, masonry, plumbing, electrical, cement work, painting, andother related trades.
• Perform routine maintenance on campground sites and trails usinghand tools or heavy equipment to re-grade and reset barriers to restore areasto original appearances.
• Conduct pre-season safety and hazard tree inspections.
• Pressure wash and paint interior and exterior areas.
• Replace signs, gravel at campsites, and site furnishings asneeded.
• Perform water and wastewater systems maintenance includingrepairing or replacing sinks, showers, water heaters, toilet risers, waterdistribution and wastewater collection piping.
• Replace electrical receptacles, wires, switches, and fixtures.
• Repair building finishes, doors, windows, and carpentry.
• Operate power equipment such as lawn mowers and all types of handtools to maintain buildings, grounds, roads, trails, etc.
• Perform janitorial duties and garbage removal, as needed inback-up support
• Perform routine assessments of facilities, water systems, andwastewater systems using standard forms and according to clear and specifieddirection.
• Travel to project locations for maintenance work and activities,as needed, via privately owned vehicle.

What qualifications do you look for?

• Authorization to work in the U.S. permanentlywithout sponsorship.
• A High School diploma or equivalent.
• Practical skill and knowledge in such trades as:
  • Carpentry
  • Plumbing
  • Masonry
  • Painting
  • Electrical
  • Landscaping
• A minimum of (5) years of experience working inrelevant trades.
• Ability to use, maintain, and repair tools andequipment.
• Ability to work independently and without morethan normal supervision.
• Strength and mobility to work in a typical fieldsetting.
• Ability to frequently lift, carry and set upparts and equipment that weigh up to 40 pounds.
• Stamina to navigate uneven terrain andconstruction sites, including standing, walking, and climbing for up to 8 hoursa day.
• Adequate vision to read printed materials andcomputer screens
• Hearing and speech adequate to communicate inperson or over a radio or telephone.
• Ability and willingness to perform work inaustere weather conditions, in the presence of loud noise, at heights exceeding10 feet, and in environments that commonly include exposure to dust and noxiousodors.
