Job summary

Gainesville City Schools is seeking a diligent Maintenance Worker to support the District Facilities team. You will work on-site in Field locations under the direction of the Maintenance Director, performing routine and skilled maintenance tasks across carpentry, plumbing and electrical systems.

This role requires physical capability to lift up to 75 pounds, a valid Georgia driver’s license, and adherence to district safety and ethics standards. 235-day calendar with non-exempt status.

  • Maintain clean and organized work vehicle.
  • Maintain all equipment and tools in good working order.
  • Safely load, unload, and secure equipment and tools for transport.
  • Procure and return materials, equipment, and tools from/to stock.
  • Report safety hazards affecting students, staff, or visitors.
  • Maintain a safe work site.
  • Perform carpentry, plumbing, and electrical tasks as assigned.
  • Operate maintenance machinery safely.

Summary

Under the general supervision of the Director of Maintenance.

Duties
  1. Maintain clean and organized work vehicle.
  2. Maintain all equipment and tools in good working order.
  3. Safely load, unload, and secure all equipment, tools, and other items to be transported, either by vehicle or trailer.
  4. Procure and return materials, equipment, and tools from/to stock.
  5. Immediately report safety hazards which affect the welfare of students, system employees or visitors.
  6. Maintain safe work site.
  7. Routinely climb, balance, stop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  8. Routinely lift and/or move up to 75 pounds.
  9. Work indoors and outdoors with exposure to weather including cold, heat, wet, and high humidity.
  10. Follow written and oral instructions.
  11. Complete carpentry work as assigned.
    • Cabinetry
    • Bookshelves
    • Minor renovations
  12. Complete plumbing work as assigned. Examples include, but not limited to: Repair toilets, sinks, water lines, sewer lines, etc.
  13. Complete electrical work as assigned.
    • Repair lights, receptacles and switches
    • Wire new circuits
    • Wire small structures such as field houses and press boxes
  14. Operate maintenance machinery in a safe manner.
  15. Follow the standard purchasing procedure for the school system.
  16. Demonstrate prompt and regular attendance.
  17. Act in a professional manner and maintain a professional attitude toward the public and colleagues and exhibit the fundamentals of public/customer service.
  18. Maintain confidentiality and adhere to the chain of command.
  19. Maintain a professional appearance as appropriate for job responsibilities.
  20. Take initiative and assume responsibility for all aspects of the job; perform routine duties and tasks with little or no direct supervision.
  21. Remain on call during after hours, weekends and holidays.
  22. Perform all other duties, and assume all other school or system related responsibilities, as assigned by the Maintenance Director.
Required Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED)
  • Experience performing general maintenance duties desirable
  • A valid Georgia Driver’s License
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable
Physical Demands
  • Medium Work: Occasionally lifting up to 50 pounds, and/or moving 10-25 pounds frequently.
  • Heavy Work: Occasionally lifting up to 75 pounds, and/or frequently moving 25-50 pounds, and/or constantly moving 10-20 pounds.
