Job Overview

The General Maintenance Worker performs a variety of electrical trade functions such as the installation, maintenance, or repair of electrical equipment. Work involves most of the following: installing or repairing electrical equipment such as interior and exterior lighting and power, generators, transformers, switchboards, controllers, circuit breakers, motors, heating units, conduit systems, or other equipment. Ability to work from blueprints, drawings, layouts, or other specifications, locating and diagnosing trouble in the electrical system or equipment, and using a variety of electrician's hand tools and meters.

Qualifications

• Prefer five years of experience in the electrical trade.
• Must be able to troubleshoot and determine the equipment and material needed for repairs.
• Good verbal and written skills, able to work independently and with others.
• Must have a Journeyman license and a valid Alabama driver's license.
• Ability to lift 50 lbs.

Key Responsibilities/Accountabilities

• Respond to service calls.
• Perform maintenance and repair on electrical systems, including Airfield Lighting.
• Repair and replace motors and controls.
• Install new conduit and wiring systems indoors and outdoors.
• Rotate on schedule for after-hours work.
• Other duties as required.

Basic Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to work safely and efficiently.
• Knowledge of meters, hand tools, and Electrical code NEC.

Physical Requirements

Standing 50%, walking 20%, sitting 30%, lifting 35 lbs., carrying 35 lbs., pushing and pulling as needed, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, handling, fingering.
