Job summary

Planet Group in Milwaukee, WI is hiring a Maintenance Technician I to perform preventive maintenance and repairs on commercial and industrial facility equipment. The role requires strong communication and reliable follow-through to document and address issues.

Responsibilities include following OSHA and lock-out/tag-out procedures, conducting shift rounds, performing routine PMs (filters, lubrication, oil changes), basic repairs, and documenting results in the CMMS.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Preference given to candidates with undergraduate trade school or business school training.
• Some experience using hand tools and working in roles requiring physical labor.
• Experience with mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and carpentry concepts is preferred.
• Valid driver’s license required.

Responsibilities

• Abide by all safety guidelines including OSHA regulations, lock-out/tag-out procedures, and company safety policies.
• Conduct shift rounds (regular checks of systems and equipment to identify issues and document system and equipment performance).
• Maintain, troubleshoot, and perform minor repairs on equipment, at times working with guidance from more experienced technicians.
• Measure operating characteristics such as speeds, pressures, vacuum, and vibration.
• Inspect equipment for wear and replace expendable items (belts, hoses, fluids, filters, other routine components).
• Perform routine preventive maintenance activities (filter changes, condenser cleaning, oil changes, machinery lubrication).
• Perform basic facility and equipment repairs (building cleaning, patching/painting, basic plumbing/electrical repairs).
• Communicate effectively with coworkers and customer staff; document results in CMMS and update PM schedules.

Maintenance Technician I

Job Summary

In a safe, efficient, and professional manner, the Maintenance Technician I completes required preventive maintenance (PMs) and repairs on commercial and industrial facility equipment. The technician is an excellent communicator and has exceptional follow-through capabilities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Abide by all safety guidelines including OSHA regulations, lock-out/tag-out procedures, and company safety policies.
• Conduct shift rounds (regular checks of systems and equipment to identify issues and document system and equipment performance).
• Maintain, troubleshoot, and perform minor repairs on equipment, at times working with guidance from more experienced technicians.

Inspection and Evaluation

• Measure operating characteristics such as speeds, pressures, vacuum, and vibration.
• Inspect equipment for wear.
• Replace expendable items including:
  • Belts
  • Hoses
  • Fluids
  • Filters
  • Other routine consumable components

Preventive Maintenance

Perform routine preventive maintenance activities including:

• Filter changes
• Condenser cleaning
• Oil changes
• Machinery lubrication and greasing
• Other scheduled PM activities

Repairs

Perform basic facility and equipment repairs including:

• Routine building cleaning
• Patching and painting
• Basic plumbing repairs
• Simple electrical repairs
• Basic equipment repairs
• Addressing customer concerns such as lighting issues
• Document work results in the CMMS, analyze findings, and recommend updates to preventive maintenance schedules.
• Communicate effectively with coworkers and customer staff to ensure all aspects of work requests are understood.
• Keep customers informed regarding work status and expected completion dates.
• Provide guidance to subcontractors performing facility services, as needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Site Manager.

Qualifications

Education

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Preference given to candidates with undergraduate trade school or business school training.

Business Experience

• Some experience using hand tools and working in roles requiring physical labor.
• Experience with mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and carpentry concepts is preferred.

Licenses & Certifications

• Valid driver's license required.

Language Skills

• Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or graphic form.
• Ability to interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
• Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
• Ability to send and receive emails and effectively manage an email inbox.
• Ability to operate the computerized work order system.
• Ability to communicate effectively with customers and employees.
