Job description

Performs interior and exterior building operations, renovations, and repairs to campus buildings within the carpentry field. Responsible for repairs and maintenance of buildings, including general carpentry, cabinet and shelf making, walls, doors, floors, and mechanical devices such as door openers.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Interior alterations and renovations: tearing down existing areas, laying out new walls, ceilings, doors, cabinets, and floors; framing and building new ceilings; installing door jams, doors, locks, cabinets, bulletin boards, coat racks, and flooring; installing countertops and windows.
• Providing trouble call service for repairs to all interior and exterior parts of campus buildings.
• Exterior renovations: cleaning and sealing exteriors, repairing windows, storm windows, and roofs; pouring and finishing concrete sidewalks and curbs.
• Cabinetmaking/millwork: laying out cabinets, cutting, milling, building, and installing cabinets, bookcases, picture frames, bulletin boards, stools, and trim.
• Assisting in other maintenance areas and operating company vehicles as needed.
• Performing other duties as assigned by the Director of Physical Plant or designee.

Must demonstrate a strong work ethic, professionalism, and ethical conduct, representing the institution positively both internally and in the community. Physical ability to lift over 50 lbs, work in various weather conditions, and communicate courteously is required.

Education and Experience

Skills and Abilities

Proficiency with hand and power tools, chemical safety knowledge, and organizational skills are essential.

Physical Demands

Regular standing, walking, handling objects, reaching, climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling. Frequent lifting of up to 50 pounds.

Work Environment
