Job summary

Missouri Slope Community Care in Bismarck seeks a part-time Maintenance Painter to prepare surfaces, apply finishes, and perform general repairs throughout the facility. You will help maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for residents, staff, and visitors.

The role requires 1–2 years of painting experience, basic carpentry knowledge, a valid driver’s license, and a commitment to safety and vaccination policies. Training is provided as needed.

RESPONSIBLE TO

Director of Maintenance

PRIMARY JOB FUNCTION

Responsible for painting, surface preparation, touch-up painting, general building repairs, and routine maintenance throughout the facility, internal and external. Maintains a clean, safe, attractive, and well-maintained environment for residents, employees, and visitors. Performs work safely and respectfully in resident-care areas and occupied spaces while following facility-wide safety, risk management, infection prevention, and maintenance policies and procedures.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

• Prepares building and other surfaces for painting by scraping, filling, sanding, patching holes and cracks, taping, texturing, caulking, and priming as appropriate.
• Applies paint, varnish, stain, enamel, and other finishes to interior and exterior surfaces using brushes, rollers, and spray equipment.
• Performs painting, touch-up, and finishing work on walls, ceilings, doors, trim, furniture, fixtures, and other facility surfaces.
• Cleans, maintains, and properly stores brushes, painting equipment, hand tools, power tools, and other equipment following each job.
• Performs a variety of general building repair and maintenance tasks, including minor repairs to furniture, installing shelves and cabinets, patching and repairing surfaces, and other maintenance duties within the employee's skill level.
• Responds to general maintenance needs throughout the facility and assists with maintenance projects as assigned.
• Protects floors, furniture, equipment, fixtures, and other surfaces from paint, dust, damage, and debris during maintenance and painting activities.
• Maintains clean, organized, and safe work areas and properly disposes of or stores materials and supplies.
• Follows the organization's Volunteer Protection Program (VPP), Risk Management/Safety Program, Maintenance Department procedures, infection prevention practices, and all other applicable facility safety policies and procedures.
• Uses appropriate personal protective equipment, barriers, ventilation, signage, and other safety precautions when performing painting and maintenance activities.
• Works safely and professionally around frail and elderly residents and maintains resident privacy, dignity, and confidentiality.
• Demonstrates MSLCC's customer service standards of excellence in interactions with residents, families, visitors, employees, and other customers.
• Reports safety hazards, maintenance concerns, damaged equipment, or other problems to the appropriate supervisor.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS

• Assists Maintenance staff with facility projects, repairs, and preventative maintenance activities.
• Assists with moving, protecting, or repositioning furniture and equipment as necessary to complete maintenance or painting projects.
• Monitors use of supplies and equipment and practices economy in the use of utilities, materials, and other resources.
• Assists with maintaining adequate supplies and reports supply or equipment needs to the supervisor.

Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• A high school diploma or GED
• 1-2 years of professional painting, taping, and texturing experience
• Basic knowledge of carpentry; knowledge of standard practices and tools used in the maintenance and repair of building facilities as well as safety practices and procedures related to the building trades
• Previous experience in maintenance or in a field from which comparable job knowledge can be acquired.
• Must possess a valid driver’s license and maintain an acceptable driving record. Proof of a current driver's license and vehicle insurance, in accordance with state licensing requirements, is required.
• Successfully pass a criminal background check, including motor vehicle record (MVR), drug screening, and reference check.
• Successfully complete all required training and/or certification within designated timeframes, which will vary depending on the specific program assigned.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described are representative of those required to perform the essential functions of this position. Must be able to climb ladders up to 30 feet, stairs, scaffolding, and ramps; frequently kneel, crouch, stoop, bend, reach, stand for extended periods, and walk throughout the facility; and occasionally push, pull, lift, and carry materials, tools, equipment, and supplies weighing approximately 20–60 pounds. The position requires frequent grasping, handling, fingering, and repetitive hand, wrist, and arm movements associated with painting, sanding, scraping, taping, texturing, and using hand and power tools. The employee must possess sufficient visual and auditory acuity to safely operate equipment, perform detailed maintenance and painting tasks, receive instructions, and respond appropriately to the work environment.

Work Conditions

Work is performed throughout a large healthcare facility, including nursing units, resident rooms, common areas, offices, maintenance areas, and outdoor areas. Facility areas are generally well-lit and well-ventilated and may have carpeted, vinyl, or other floor surfaces. Employees may be required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE), including masks, gloves, and other protective attire. The employee may work in both indoor and outdoor environments and may be exposed to varying temperatures, noise, dust, odors, paint, chemicals, and other conditions associated with facility maintenance. Work locations, assignments, and shifts may vary based on organizational needs.
