Job description

Job Title: General Maintenance Mechanic

Reporting to the Director of Plant Operations, the General Maintenance Mechanic performs scheduled preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, maintenance, and repairs on mechanical, HVAC, and plumbing equipment. The role requires the ability to perform minor plumbing repairs, replace light bulbs and air filters in HVAC units, and troubleshoot basic HVAC, plumbing, and electrical issues. Candidates must be able to lift and move materials and tools, operate power tools safely, and be computer literate. A valid driver’s license and personal hand tools are required. A high school diploma or GED is also necessary.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Address work requests related to general maintenance, plumbing, HVAC, carpentry, painting, and troubleshooting.
2. Troubleshoot issues with pumps, fans, HVAC equipment, plumbing fixtures, and perform repairs or document findings.
3. Complete preventive and general maintenance tasks, managing work orders via the CMMS.
4. Participate in the on-call rotation for after-hours and weekend work.
5. Perform duties as Essential Personnel, including snow and debris removal, road and walkway treatment, and responding to campus closures and emergencies.
6. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Skills:

• Computer literacy, preferably with Niagara/American Auto Matrix Energy Management Systems.
• HVAC certifications such as Universal Technician are preferred but not required.
• Ability to work independently and establish good working relationships with team members.
• Self-motivated with a valid PA driver’s license.

Physical and ADA Requirements:

• Ability to lift up to 75 lbs, move, and maneuver equipment.
• Ability to walk, kneel, climb, crawl, and work in tight spaces.
• Fine motor skills and sensory detection for leaks and odors.
• Effective verbal communication and listening skills.
