The Seabird Ocean Resort and Spa in Oceanside, CA is seeking a General Maintenance Engineer to perform routine maintenance across both properties, monitor mechanical equipment, and support guest services. The role is full-time, onsite, with overnight rotation and weekend/holiday availability.

Candidates should have strong electrical and mechanical troubleshoot, blueprints reading, English fluency, and basic computer skills.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine maintenance across both properties and monitor, operate, and maintain mechanical equipment in all areas.
• Stand, walk and occasionally lift up to 50 pounds.
• Repair kitchen, laundry and HVAC equipment as needed.
• Replace light switches, outlets, light fixtures, and work on basic electrical, mechanical and plumbing equipment.
• Follow OSHA safety requirements and safety procedures.
• Document guest calls and project work in the Engineering system.
• Complete assigned projects as needed.

Summary

Join our dynamic team and work in a beautiful setting with an unobstructed view of the ocean! We are looking individuals who can provide authentic and memorable experiences that deliver the Southern California Dream to our guests as a General Maintenance Engineer. This is a full-time position with benefits. This role is fully onsite and requires open availability to work any shift as needed, included weekends and holidays. This position will rotate working overnight shifts.

The General Maintenance Engineer will:

• Perform routine maintenance throughout both properties and will monitor, operate, and maintain the mechanical equipment in all areas.
• Regularly required to stand walk and occasionally lift or move 50 pounds.
• Possess general troubleshooting skills to repair kitchen equipment, laundry equipment, and HVAC equipment.
• Must be able to do general facilities maintenance to include but not limited to replace light switches, outlets, light fixtures, and work on basic electrical, mechanical and plumbing equipment.
• Have familiarity with basic OSHA safety requirements, and fire life safety systems.
• Complete some painting and patching work.
• Complete guest calls as needed and properly document in the Engineering software system.
• Complete projects as needed.

The rate for this position ranges from $22.49-$27.59/hour.

SAFETY REQUIREMENTS:

OSHA laws require the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) when performing work duties that have a potential of risk to your health or safety. The following is a list of some of the devices required. This is only a sample list and is not to be all-inclusive due to the nature of the work conductive to the Engineering Department.

• Protective gloves, eye protection, breathing protection, hearing protection, lock-out/tag-out protection and any other equipment as necessary to provide a safe working environment.

All work duties conducted by Engineering personal will be evaluated and regular scheduled training and refresher training will be conducted as required by law. Associates will be trained as to the use and care of any and all required PPE equipment. The hotel provides this required PPE and it is the responsibility of engineer to wear this equipment as it relates to daily work assignments. It is your responsibility to report defective, damaged or lost PPE to your Manager.

• Follow all Safety Policies and Procedures.

Qualifications

• Possess good electrical and mechanical troubleshooting skills.
• Able to read blueprints, wiring schematics and technical manuals.
• Ability to read and write the English language fluently.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively with the public and other associates.
• Strong computer skills including Word, Excel and Energy Management System.
• Interpersonal skills necessary to provide the highest level of guest satisfaction.
• High School graduate or equivalent required.
• Valid drivers’ license.
• Applicants with additional language skills a plus
• Must be able to work on their own with little or no supervision.
• This person must have good communication skills and be somewhat proficient with computers.

Physical Demands

• Long hours sometimes required, including nights and weekends.
• Ability to stand for long hours at a time and to work in confined spaces as necessary.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to walk and stand for long hours and comfortable working with all heights. Must be able to climb ladders, etc.
