Job summary

Oklahoma City Community College is seeking a Student Maintenance Worker to support the full‑time Maintenance staff with routine tasks across campus facilities. You will help with lighting, painting, drywall, and other upkeep while delivering strong customer service to students and staff.

Up to 25 hours per week, job opportunities are arranged around your school schedule and require you to be an OCCC student enrolled in the appropriate hours.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine maintenance tasks including changing lights, painting, drywall repair, ceiling tile replacement.
  • Carry out planned maintenance routines and scheduled walkthroughs.
  • Assist Maintenance Mechanics with repairs and work orders.
  • Communicate status of daily tasks and ensure customer service.
  • Adhere to safety policies and participate in safety trainings.

Job description

Oklahoma City Community College employs a staff of students as maintenance workers during the academic year and summer. The Student Maintenance Worker’s primary mission is to assist the full‑time Maintenance staff in performing routine maintenance work. The student staff is an important part of the day‑to‑day operations and the summer transition process. A major area of responsibility emphasized is customer service.

  • Ability to read and understand direction, equipment instructions, operating manuals and College procedures.
  • Ability to write legibly and type accurately.
  • Ability to work independently.
Physical Demands & Working Conditions

1. GENERAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Heavy work: This position requires the person to occasionally exert up to 100 pounds of force and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
2. PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES:
This position requires the person to frequently move about the various campuses.
This position requires the person to frequently communicate with and listen to Facilities Management staff to perform the essential functions of the position. Must be able to exchange accurate information in various situations.
This position requires the person to frequently remain in a standing and stationary position.
This position requires the person to frequently operate equipment that frequently involves repetitive motions of hands and wrists.
This position requires the person to occasionally ascend/descend a ladder, scaffolding, etc. to perform the essential functions of the position.
This position requires the person to frequently position self to move, lift, push, pull, work on, or operate equipment.
3. VISUAL ACUITY:
This position requires the person to judge, observe and assess the accuracy, neatness, thoroughness of work assigned or to make general observations.
4. WORKING CONDITIONS:
This position’s essential functions are normally performed indoors but may be performed outdoors and subject to extreme cold (temperatures below 32 degrees) and extreme hot temperatures (temperatures above 100 degrees).
This position requires the person to communicate above ambient noise levels and exchange accurate information in various situations.
This position requires the person to frequently be exposed to hazards such as but not limited to: close proximity to moving mechanical parts and/or electrical current; working on scaffolding and high places; exposure to high heat or exposure to chemicals, oils, and/or other cutting fluids.
This position requires the person to frequently be exposed to fumes, odors, dusts and gases associated building maintenance and operations.

Preferred Qualifications

Technical expertise in several trades for the maintenance, preventive maintenance, repair, and operation of facilities.

Work Hours

Up to 25 hours per week as arranged around school schedule.

Qualifications Summary

Current OCCC student enrolled in a minimum of 6 hours for the Fall or Spring semester or enrolled in a minimum of 3 hours for the Summer semester.
OR
Current OCCC student with a Federal Work Study award.

Job Duties (Duties Assignment Statement)

Essential Functions:
Perform routine maintenance work at all areas of Oklahoma City Community College, which includes but is not limited to: changing lights, painting, drywall repair, ceiling tile replacement.
Perform regularly planned and preventative maintenance routines which include scheduled walk‑thru’s.
Assist Maintenance Mechanics with various repair projects and work orders.
Communicate the status of jobs that are assigned daily as to the completeness of the task.
Present professional appearance and attitude at all times and maintain a high level of customer service.
Other duties as assigned by the Building Maintenance and Operations Manager.
Marginal Functions:
Perform other duties within Facilities Management in support of departmental goals.
Move furniture, materials, and equipment, as necessary.
May Drive College‑owned vehicles, as required for performance of assigned duties.
Perform other related work as required.

Contribute to a safe educational & working environment.
Adhere to established safety and health procedures and practices for the purpose of providing injury and illness prevention for self and others.
Complete quarterly health and safety training pursuant to OCCC’s established safety and health procedures and practices.
Participate in all applicable OCCC emergency, evacuation, shelter in place drills, and be prepared to take action and assist others in taking appropriate action should a health or safety emergency occur.
