Job summary

VT Group (VTG) in San Diego, CA is seeking a General Maintenance and Repair Worker to perform maintenance and repair of equipment and buildings across trades such as painting, carpentry, plumbing, masonry, and electrical work.

You will replace electrical components, patch walls, repair plumbing, install doors, and conduct routine maintenance on machinery, while meeting physical requirements and obtaining an active Secret clearance.

Qualifications

• Must be a U.S. Citizen.
• Must be a High School Graduate.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain an Active Secret Clearance.
• Must meet physical requirements associated with and/or pass medical examination requirements.
• Must pass pre-employment background check.
• Must pass pre-employment and post-employment drug testing.
• Must have at least 2 years of documented relevant experience.

Responsibilities

• Perform mechanical work involved in servicing, adjustments, and repair of machinery in engine department spaces and shared equipment.
• Use mechanical, electrical and pneumatic hand tools and measuring devices in maintenance or repair of equipment.
• Maintain and repair all plumbing on the dredge; clear clogged lines, repair or replace leaking lines/valves/faucets, cut and thread pipe, install new equipment and perform general plumbing work.
• Maintain and make necessary repairs or alterations to machinery; perform maintenance and repair on industrial equipment.
• Perform maintenance and repair on equipment such as packing valves, pumps, bottom door glands; disassemble and repair or replace hydraulic cylinders; crimp and replace hydraulic hoses.
• Conduct continual lubrication checks and monitor levels, temperatures and pressures; make necessary corrections.

Overview

VTG is currently seeking a General Maintenance and Repair Worker to perform general maintenance and repair of equipment and buildings requiring practical skill and knowledge (but not proficiency) in such trades as painting, carpentry, plumbing, masonry, and electrical work. Work involves a variety of the following duties: replacing electrical receptacles, wires, switches, fixtures, and motors, using plaster or compound to patch minor holes and cracks in walls and ceilings, repairing or replacing sinks, water coolers, and toilets painting structures and equipment; repairing or replacing concrete floors, steps, and sidewalks, replacing damaged paneling and floor tiles, hanging doors and installing door locks, replacing broken window panes, and performing general maintenance on equipment and machinery. Excluded are: a. Craft workers included in a formal apprenticeship or progression program based on training and experience; b. Skilled craft workers required to demonstrate proficiency in one or more trades; c. Workers performing simple maintenance duties not requiring practical skill and knowledge of a trade (e.g., changing light bulbs and replacing faucet washers).

What will you do?

• You will serve as a General Maintenance and Repair Worker (Oiler) performing mechanical work involved in servicing, adjustments, and repair of machinery in the engine department spaces and shared equipment on floating plant and elsewhere as directed.
• Use mechanical, electrical and pneumatic hand tools and various types of measuring devices (micrometers, calipers, dial indicators and tachometers) in the maintenance or repair of equipment.
• Maintain and make repairs and alterations to all plumbing on the dredge; clears clogged lines, repairs or replaces leaking lines, leaking valves, leaky faucets, etc., cuts and threads pipe, installs new equipment and performs general plumbing work.
• Maintain and make necessary repairs or alterations to machinery. Performs maintenance and repair on industrial equipment.
• Perform maintenance and repair on equipment such as: packing valves, pumps, and bottom door glands; disassembly and repair, or replacement of hydraulic cylinders; and crimping and replacement of hydraulic hoses, etc.
• Perform continual checks of lubrication of systems on operating equipment. Checks and records levels, temperatures and pressures and makes necessary corrections.

VTG’s base pay range is $24.83 per hour, which is a general guideline for the geographic location, work experience, education, skill level, and/or market considerations
