Job summary

Smurfit Westrock in Chattanooga is seeking a General Maintenance Technician to support the plant's drive toward a high-performing, safe operation. The position operates on a rotating night shift from 7pm to 7am, ensuring continuous production through proactive maintenance and quick issue resolution.

You should have a high school diploma, be able to read electrical and mechanical drawings, and be computer literate.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; military training/technical school preferred
• Ability to read and interpret electrical and mechanical drawings
• Fully computer literate with Microsoft environment
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• General knowledge of PLC troubleshooting and mechanical/electrical aptitude (preferred)

Responsibilities

• Perform routine preventative maintenance, inspections, and basic repairs on mechanical and electrical equipment
• Troubleshoot common equipment issues, assist with breakdown repairs, and support senior technicians to reduce downtime
• Follow plant safety rules including LOTO, JHA, and housekeeping standards
• Complete work orders, PMs, and documentation accurately while communicating issues and maintenance needs
• Support team operations by learning equipment functions and assisting with training and continuous improvement

General Maintenance Technician - Chattanooga

Shift: Rotating Nights (7pm to 7am)

The Opportunity

Support the plant in the continued progress towards a sustainable, high-performing work system. Key areas of responsibility:

• Perform routine preventative maintenance, inspections, and basic repairs on mechanical and electrical equipment under established procedures and supervision.
• Troubleshoot common equipment issues, assist with breakdown repairs, and support senior technicians to reduce downtime and maintain production flow.
• Follow plant safety rules and documented procedures including LOTO, JHA, and housekeeping standards to maintain a safe work environment.
• Complete work orders, PMs, and documentation accurately while communicating equipment issues and maintenance needs to team members and supervisors.
• Support team operations by learning equipment functions, assisting with material organization, and participating in training and continuous improvement efforts.

What You Need To Succeed

• High school diploma or equivalent; Military training and/or Technical School preferred
• Must be able to read and interpret both electrical and mechanical drawings.
• Must be fully computer literate with Microsoft environment.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• General knowledge of PLC trouble shooting and problem solving ability with practical, mechanical & electrical aptitude, preferred, not required.
