Position Overview

Our client is seeking a motivated General Liability Defense Attorney to join its insurance defense litigation practice. The ideal candidate will have at least 2 years of recent Illinois insurance defense experience, with experience handling tort litigation and familiarity with comparable billing requirements.

This position offers an opportunity to handle a broad range of insurance defense matters while developing and expanding a book of business. Candidates who already have an established book of business may have opportunities to further develop their practice.

Key Responsibilities

• Handle a caseload of Illinois insurance defense and General Liability matters.
• Represent clients in a broad range of tort litigation matters.
• Manage cases through various stages of litigation, including pleadings, discovery, depositions, motions, settlement negotiations, and trial preparation.
• Conduct legal research and prepare pleadings, motions, briefs, and other litigation documents.
• Develop case strategies and provide legal advice to clients and insurance carriers.
• Communicate regularly with clients, claims professionals, opposing counsel, courts, and other parties.
• Participate in depositions, hearings, mediations, arbitrations, and other litigation proceedings.
• Manage case deadlines, court requirements, and client expectations.
• Maintain accurate and timely billing in accordance with applicable requirements.
• Develop and maintain strong client relationships.
• Identify opportunities for business development and expansion of an existing book of business.
• Collaborate with other attorneys and legal professionals on complex litigation matters.
• Perform other duties related to General Liability and insurance defense litigation as assigned.

Required Qualifications

• 2+ years of Illinois insurance defense experience, with relevant experience within the last 3 years.
• Illinois bar admission required.
• Indiana or Wisconsin bar admission is a plus.
• Experience handling General Liability and tort litigation.
• Familiarity with comparable litigation and billing requirements.
• Strong legal research, writing, negotiation, and oral advocacy skills.
• Experience managing cases independently and meeting litigation deadlines.
• Strong client communication and relationship-management skills.
• Ability to meet an 1,850-hour annual billable requirement.
• Candidates with an established book of business are encouraged to apply.

• Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
