Description

General Laborer will perform various labor-intensive tasks in an industrial setting under the direction of a supervisor or foreman. Responsibilities include operating a variety of hand and power tools, cleaning and preparing sites, digging trenches, setting braces to support the sides of excavations, erecting scaffolding, cleaning up rubble and debris, and removing waste materials. Assisting other craft workers may also be required.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

• Perform a variety of tasks involving strenuous manual labor.
• Shovel bituminous concrete (asphalt) or other material into construction areas.
• Assist in patching asphalt with hot and cold mix; excavate and fill trenches and ditches.
• Maintain a clean job site by picking up all tools and equipment and securing the job site each day to eliminate potential hazards.
• Handle and store materials.
• Load and unload trucks and haul and hoist materials.
• Ensure that proper safety and incident reporting procedures are followed; report problems to the Foreman or Safety personnel.
• Possess some knowledge of proper use of equipment, materials, and supplies used in an industrial setting.
• Have some knowledge of first aid and applicable safety precautions.
• Work independently and complete daily activities according to work schedule.
• Lift heavy objects, walk and stand for long periods, and perform strenuous physical labor under adverse field conditions.
• Communicate orally and in writing.
• Use equipment and tools properly and safely.
• Understand, follow, and transmit written and oral instructions.
• Meet attendance schedule with dependability and consistency.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications Required for this Position:

Experience: 6+ months experience in an industrial setting preferred.
