Job Title: General Laborer / Machine Expeditor
Job Description

This role supports daily production operations in a manufacturing environment through hands-on general labor and machine expediting activities. You will assist machine operators, handle materials, perform housekeeping and packaging tasks, and help keep production lines running efficiently. The position offers on-the-job training with production equipment and machine operation, making it a strong entry point for individuals who want to build a long-term career in manufacturing and enjoy physical, active work.

Responsibilities
  • Support production line operations by providing general labor assistance wherever needed.
  • Assist machine operators with daily production activities and machine-related tasks.
  • Learn and follow production equipment and machine operation procedures under guidance.
  • Package, bag, and handle finished products according to production requirements.
  • Move raw materials and finished products throughout the facility using appropriate material handling methods.
  • Perform housekeeping duties around machinery and production lines to maintain a clean and safe work area.
  • Sweep, clean, and maintain work areas on a regular basis.
  • Assist with loading and unloading materials from trucks, pallets, or staging areas.
  • Conduct basic quality checks on products to ensure they meet standards.
  • Transport materials to and from production areas to support continuous operations.
  • Follow production schedules and instructions to meet daily output goals.
  • Assist with equipment setup and changeovers as directed by machine operators or supervisors.
  • Work both indoors and outdoors as production and material handling needs require.
  • Follow all safety procedures, site policies, and guidelines when working around machinery and equipment.
  • Support other departments and teams as production needs change throughout the day.
Essential Skills
  • Experience performing general labor in manufacturing, construction, warehouse, or industrial environments.
  • Ability to lift 65+ pounds repeatedly throughout the shift.

  • Forklift experience and interest in obtaining forklift certification.
  • Machine operation or machine operating experience in a manufacturing environment.

Work Environment

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Suffolk, VA 23434.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $16.00 - $18.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
