General Laborer

Job Location: TS000 - Traffic Solutions (Alvarado Texas) - Alvarado, TX 76009. Position Type: Full Time. Education Level: High School. Travel Percentage: Negligible. Job Category: Installation - Maint - Repair.

Job Summary

The General Laborer will assist with mechanical work, welding, equipment upkeep, shop maintenance, striping and traffic control. They have experience in these areas.

Supervisory Responsibilities

• Assist with new employee training
• Assist with constructive and timely performance evaluations
• Assist with time management of the team to complete tasks promptly

Duties / Responsibilities

• Perform routine inspection and maintenance on vehicles such as checking oil, water, and tires
• Operate graders for leveling and tractors to load materials such as dirt and rocks
• Operate backhoe and front-end loaders as required
• Operate forklifts and dump trucks to transport trash and materials
• Operate various equipment for general site preparation, landscaping, snow removal, and related assignments
• Operate 40‑ton trash trucks including hydraulic equipment such as tailgates, hoppers, and packers as required
• Ensure proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; promote continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices
• Inspect large equipment before and after use to ensure they are working properly
• Load and unload cargo and move them to the appropriate storage area
• Follow all safety procedures while operating equipment
• Perform regular maintenance and minor repairs when necessary

Required Skills / Abilities

• Proficient written and oral communication skills
• Strong computer skills, able to read, write, and comprehend written instructional documents
• Ability to function well in a high‑paced and, at times, stressful environment
• Mathematical ability: addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, ratios, percent, graphs, geometry, algebra

Education and Experience

Physical Requirements

• Prolonged periods of sitting and operating equipment

• Ability to stand, walk, and reach with arms and hands as necessary

Special Qualifications / Requirements

• Must be able to pass required federal, state, or local government background investigation
• Valid state driver's license & Class A CDL
