Job Title

General Laborer

Job Summary

The General Laborer will also help with any mechanical and welding work needed and assist in the upkeep of equipment, shop maintenance, striping, and traffic control.

Supervisory Responsibilities

• Assist with new employee training
• Assist with constructive and timely performance evaluations
• Assist with time management of the team to complete tasks promptly

Duties/Responsibilities

• Perform routine inspection and maintenance on vehicles such as checking oil, water, and tires
• Operate graders for leveling and tractors to load materials such as dirt and rocks
• Operate backhoe and front‑end loaders as required
• Operate forklifts and dump trucks to transport trash and materials
• Operate various equipment for general site preparation, landscaping, snow removal, and related assignments
• Operate 40‑ton trash trucks including hydraulic equipment such as tailgates, hoppers, and packers as required
• Ensure proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; promote continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices
• Inspect large equipment before and after use to ensure they are working properly
• Load and unload cargo and move them to the appropriate storage area
• Follow all safety procedures while operating equipment
• Perform regular maintenance and minor repairs when necessary

Required Skills/Abilities

• Proficient written and oral communication skills
• Strong computer skills, able to read, write, and comprehend written instructional documents
• Ability to function well in a high‑paced and, at times, stressful environment
• Basic mathematical skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, rates, ratios, percentages, geometry, algebra)
• Experience in welding
• Mechanical knowledge

Education and Experience

• High school diploma or equivalent
• At least two years of related experience
• Understanding of job site safety procedures
• Familiarity with preventive maintenance on a variety of construction‑class vehicles
• Willingness to work a variety of shifts with 2 weeks' notice
• Willingness to be outside in a variety of extreme weather conditions

Physical Requirements

• Prolonged periods of sitting and operating equipment
• Prolonged periods of standing, bending, reaching, and working with hands
• Prolonged periods of exposure to loud noises
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds at times
• Ability to stand, walk, and reach with arms and hands as necessary
• Ability to hear and see to position and safety requirement levels
• Occasional exposure to elements such as heat, cold, noise, dust, dirt, and chemicals

Special Qualifications/Requirements

• Must be able to pass a federal, state, or local background investigation
• Valid state driver's license & Class A CDL
