Job summary

Port of Morrow in Boardman, Oregon, seeks a skilled Maintenance Worker/Equipment Operator to support lead maintenance, perform routine inspections and carry out repairs at multiple sites.

You will operate heavy equipment, lay pipe, perform preventative maintenance, and follow safety regulations. A valid Class A CDL with airbrake, tanker and doubles is required with a clean driving record.

Qualifications

  • Experience with earthwork, machine control or layout preferred.
  • Ability to operate heavy equipment safely and effectively.

General Position Summary

Assist the Lead Maintenance Worker/Equipment Operator and under general supervision, performs skilled maintenance of facilities, buildings, grounds and equipment at various sites.

Essential Functions/Major Responsibilities
  • Conducting routine inspections of premises and equipment.
  • Handling basic repairs and maintenance.
  • Ability to learn to operate various pieces of large equipment in accordance with company procedures and safety regulations.
  • Operates trucks of various sizes and weights in the loading, hauling and unloading of various equipment, materials and supplies.
  • Operates trucks and construction or power equipment, such as backhoe, man-lift, bulldozer, dump truck, snowplow, road grader, front-end loader, excavator or skid steer.
  • Digging ditches and trenches for pipe installation and other various projects.
  • Performs routine inspections and preventative maintenance on assigned equipment and refers defects or repairs to the supervisor.
  • Cleans and maintains equipment.
  • Plows snow and salts roads when directed by lead.
  • Lay out, assemble, install and maintain pipe systems.
  • Inspect, examine and test installed systems and pipe lines.
  • Modify, clean and maintain pipe systems.
  • Performs all duties in conformance to appropriate safety and security standards.
  • Abide by all local, state, and federal regulations, as well as all company safety procedures.
Secondary Functions
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by supervisor.

Specific Job Skills
  • Some knowledge in the operation of heavy equipment including but not limited to Grader, Dozer, Front-end loader, Scraper, Backhoe, Dump Truck, and Excavators.
  • Good knowledge of traffic and safety rules and accident prevention practices.
  • Knowledge of public works construction and maintenance tools, equipment, materials and methods.
  • Ability to perform a wide variety of duties and responsibilities with accuracy and speed under the pressure of time-sensitive deadlines.
  • Good organizational skills.
  • Ability to work varying hours.
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.
  • Ability to work outside in different climates including cold, wet, hot and windy conditions.
  • Ability to stand for long periods including bending, stooping and reaching.
  • Must possess a valid Class A commercial driver’s license that includes airbrake, tanker and doubles and have an acceptable driving record, and proof of current vehicle insurance
Education and/or Experience
  • High school education or equivalent required.
  • Some experience in the earth work field, machine control and layout.
Job Conditions

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in outside weather conditions. The employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts and is frequently exposed to wet or humid conditions and vibration. The employee occasionally works in high, precarious places and is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. Working conditions can sometimes be dangerous and attention to all hazards is a must at all times.
