Gordon State College in Barnesville, GA, is seeking a Facilities Assistant to support event setup, building care, and campus operations. The role backs the Contracts and Event Manager and helps ensure successful campus events.
The position involves setup/breakdown, moving equipment, custodial tasks, and general maintenance of outdoor and indoor areas. It is non-exempt and offers a comprehensive benefits package.

Founded in 1852, GSC is a member of the University System of Georgia. The college has a distinctive legacy of excellent scholarship and service. This position supports the Facilities department by performing general labor and assisting with event setup, building care and appearance, event preparation and other operational needs. The position also serves as a backup to the Contracts and Event Manager to help ensure the successful execution of campus events.
Serves as a backup to the Contracts and Event Setup Manager.
Assist with the setup and breakdown of campus events, including tents, tables, chairs, signage, and staging.
Move furniture, equipment, and materials safely as needed.
Carry, deliver facilities, and transport facilities-related equipment or supplies.
Install temporary traffic and informational signage across campus as needed.
Perform general custodial and housekeeping duties, including dusting and wiping furniture and fixtures, cleaning spills and broken glass, and maintaining other designated areas as assigned.
Perform general outdoor maintenance duties, including removing debris and weeds, watering flowers, picking up trash, and emptying and cleaning trash receptacles.
Assist with basic building and equipment maintenance
Request, load, unload, stock, and organize supplies and storage areas.
Report maintenance issues, safety concerns, and other needs to Director or supervisor.
Operate department vehicles as needed.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Ability to read, write and perform basic mathematical calculations.
Valid driver's license.
Basic computer skills.
Knowledge of safe work practices.
Skill in decision making and problem solving.
Skill in communicating with others.
Familiarity of basic computer skills (such as email, Microsoft Word) and computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS).

The work is typically performed in an office or stockroom, in a variety of university buildings, and outdoors, occasionally in cold or inclement weather. The employee may be exposed to noise, dust, dirt, grease, machinery with moving parts, contagious or infectious diseases, or irritating chemicals. Work requires the use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, gloves, etc.
