Job summary

Russel Metals is seeking a General Laborer for a 2nd shift in its manufacturing facility. You will assist machine operators, perform basic assembly, inspect parts, and package finished products while maintaining clean work areas and following safety guidelines.

The role requires reliable attendance, ability to lift up to 35 pounds, and readiness to learn manufacturing processes. Teamwork and attention to detail are essential for quality output and productivity.

Responsibilities

  • Assist machine operators with production activities.
  • Perform basic assembly, deburring, grinding, cleaning, packaging and finishing.
  • Inspect parts for defects and report quality concerns.
  • Package finished products according to customer and company requirements.
  • Label, count and stage materials and finished products accurately.
  • Maintain clean and organized work areas throughout the shift.
  • Follow work instructions, production schedules and supervisor direction.
  • Operate basic hand tools and production equipment after training.
  • Use carts, pallet jacks and other material-handling equipment as trained.
  • Dispose of scrap and waste materials properly.
  • Maintain identification and traceability of materials and finished products.
  • Follow all safety policies, PPE requirements and OSHA standards.
  • Report unsafe conditions and issues to supervisor.
  • Assist other departments and employees as needed to support production.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Job description

Russel Metals is one of the largest metals distribution companies in North America, with a growing focus on value-added processing. It carries on business in three segments: metals service centers, energy field stores and steel distributors. Its network of metals service centers carries an extensive line of metal products in a wide range of sizes, shapes and specifications, including carbon hot rolled and cold finished steel, pipe and tubular products, stainless steel, aluminum and other non-ferrous specialty metals. Its energy field stores carry a specialized product line focused on the needs of the energy industry customers. Its steel distributors' operations act as master distributors selling steel in large volumes to other steel service centers and large equipment manufacturers mainly on an "as is" basis.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assist machine operators with production activities as directed.
  • Perform basic assembly, deburring, grinding, cleaning, packaging, and finishing operations.
  • Inspect parts for obvious defects and notify the appropriate supervisor or operator of quality concerns.
  • Package finished products according to customer and company requirements.
  • Label, count, and stage materials and finished products accurately.
  • Maintain clean and organized work areas throughout the shift.
  • Follow work instructions, production schedules, and supervisor direction.
  • Operate basic hand tools and production equipment after appropriate training.
  • Use carts, pallet jacks, and other material-handling equipment as authorized and trained.
  • Separate and properly dispose of scrap and waste materials.
  • Maintain proper identification and traceability of materials and finished products.
  • Follow all company safety policies, PPE requirements, and OSHA standards.
  • Report unsafe conditions, equipment problems, injuries, or quality issues immediately.
  • Assist other departments and employees as needed to support production.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Required

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

  • Ability to safely lift, carry, push, and pull materials as required by the job.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing quality work.
  • Willingness to learn manufacturing processes and equipment.
Preferred
  • Previous manufacturing or general labor experience.
  • Experience using hand tools or basic shop equipment.
  • Experience with material handling or pallet jacks.
  • Basic understanding of measurements and use of a tape measure.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Ability to frequently bend, reach, stoop, push, pull, and lift.
  • Ability to safely handle materials commonly used in a tube fabrication manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to lift materials weighing up to 35 pounds, with heavier materials handled using appropriate equipment or assistance.
  • Ability to work around machinery, noise, metal products, and manufacturing processes while following required PPE and safety procedures.

This is a 2nd shift opening.

This position works primarily in a manufacturing facility and may be exposed to:

  • Manufacturing machinery and equipment
  • Metal tubing and fabricated components
  • Noise and vibration
  • Dust, oils, coolants, and other manufacturing materials
  • Forklifts and other material-handling equipment

Proper personal protective equipment must be worn at all times as required by company policy.
