A General Laborer is responsible for safely and efficiently performing general labor duties at a hauling company, transfer station, materials recycling facility (MRF), or landfill. Responsibilities include yard clean-up, fueling vehicles and equipment, general vehicle operation, office maintenance, and other related duties.

Key Responsibilities

• Clean up work areas
• Fuel vehicles and equipment
• Clean tracks on track-type and related equipment
• Perform yard work, including mowing and paper pick-up
• Operate general site vehicles and equipment, such as water trucks, pickup trucks, sweepers, mowers, trimming equipment, etc.
• Follow safety policies & procedures according to company and regulatory standards
• Perform general office maintenance and repairs, including painting and janitorial work
• Direct traffic at the site as necessary
• Perform other duties as requested by management

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED preferred but not required
• Must meet safety criteria for safety-sensitive functions per company standards

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Ability to read, write, perform basic math, and communicate effectively
• Ability to follow instructions and work with minimal supervision
• Ability to operate necessary equipment
• Apply common sense reasoning to solve problems

Physical and Mental Demands

• Stand, walk, bend, reach, and lift outdoors 90% of the time
• Use hands and fingers, kneel, crawl, talk, hear, climb, and balance
• Visual requirements include close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, and focus adjustment
• Lift/move up to 65 pounds regularly; push/move up to 100 pounds with assistance

Working Conditions

• Exposure to loud noise, humidity, weather extremes, moving machinery, vibrations, chemicals, fumes, and airborne particles
• Work outdoors up to 100% of the time
• Work in high, precarious places and in traffic conditions
• Work environment is typically loud
