Job summary

Biewer Lumber in Wisconsin is seeking a dependable hands-on team member to support the lumber treating facility. You will operate splitter equipment to break down packs, manage stacking, labeling, and preparation for treating, and ensure accurate tagging.

The role requires reading and following instructions, good communication, and reliable attendance. You will work in an industrial setting with PPE required and adherence to OSHA and safety procedures, plus training on equipment and safety

Responsibilities

• Run splitter equipment to divide lumber for treating.
• Operate stacker to place sticks between lumber layers for processing.
• Use delather equipment to remove lathe sticks after treating.
• Identify lumber sizes and match barcodes to units.
• Apply tags and placards, using bander or stapling tools; use ladder when needed.
• Package lumber with wrap, and prepare for customer shipping.
• Complete safety forms, checklists, and permits.
• Follow lockout/tagout procedures and safety policies.
• Report near misses or unsafe conditions to supervisor.
• Maintain clean work areas and dispose of debris.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

• Run the splitter equipment to divide incoming lumber packs into smaller sizes for the treating process.
• Operate stacker equipment to place lathe sticks between layers of lumber or plywood in preparation for the lumber treating process.
• Utilize the delather equipment to remove lathe sticks from lumber layers after treating the lumber units.
• Identify different sizes of plywood and lumber accurately, and match barcodes to appropriate lumber units.
• Apply barcode tags and placards to lumber units, using a bander or a pneumatic or electric stapling gun, and a ladder when necessary.
• Package lumber units with wrapping material and place pilers and loading sticks on the bagged material for customer shipping.
• Complete required safety forms, checklists, and permits.
• Perform lockout/tagout procedures as required.
• Follow all safety procedures and policies, and work together with co-workers to ensure a safe working environment.
• Report all near misses, incidents, or potentially unsafe conditions to a supervisor.
• Ensure clean work areas by sweeping floors, picking up broken pieces of lumber, shoveling, and disposing of material or debris.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Basic Qualifications

• Language skills to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
• Ability to speak effectively and professionally to customers or employees of an organization.
• Understand and follow verbal and written instructions.
• Mechanical aptitude and ability to operate industrial equipment.
• Proven reliable attendance and punctuality.

Education, Experience, And Certifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.

Work Environment

• Prior manufacturing experience is preferred.
• Industrial manufacturing environment with exposure to moving machinery and mechanical equipment.
• Exposure to bark, sawdust, and fluctuating seasonal temperatures (hot, cold, humid).
• Due to exposure to noise above the permissible exposure limit (PEL), falling hazards, and sawdust, employees must wear hearing protection, a hard hat, safety glasses, safety footwear, and a high-visibility shirt/vest.
• This safety-sensitive position requires employees to comply with all OSHA regulations, company safety policies, and required drug and alcohol testing procedures.

Physical Demands

• Stand or walk for extended periods (8-12-hour shifts).
• Climb and descend steps, stairways, or ladders several times per shift.
• Lift, push, or pull up to 50 lbs. regularly and use hand tools.
