Work Schedule: 24/7 operation, 1st, 2nd & 3rd shifts, including on‑call, rotating holidays & possible weekends.

Job Location: CVM Teaching Hospital, NC State Veterinary Hospital, Raleigh, NC.

Key Responsibilities
  • Clinical & Technical Patient Care
    • Advanced nursing: provide comprehensive care, manage patient comfort and hygiene.
    • Technical procedures: venipuncture, IV catheter placement (indwelling & short‑term), drug administration (IV, oral, SQ).
    • Specialized treatments: wound care, bandage applications, chemotherapy administration.
    • Post‑operative management: intensive monitoring for surgical recovery, vital sign stability and pain management.
    • Physical demands: lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Coordination & Communication
    • Case management liaison: direct admissions process and provide real‑time updates.
    • Client relations: professional, empathetic contact for pet owners during visits.
    • Internal service coordination: collaborate across hospital departments to streamline transitions.
    • Clinical teaching: supervise and evaluate senior veterinary students, interns, and residents.
    • Skill development: provide technical orientation and instruction on protocols.
  • Administration & Operations
    • Medical records & finance: maintain EMR and oversee internal billing.
    • Facility oversight: ensure compliance with infectious disease, OSHA, radiation safety, and EHS protocols.
    • Inventory & equipment: manage maintenance and stocking of procedural stations.
  • Other responsibilities: duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Completion of an accredited training program in veterinary technician or equivalent combination of training and experience.

  • Licensed/registered/certified by any state.
  • Graduation from an AVMA‑accredited 2‑ or 4‑year veterinary technician program.
  • Experience as a veterinary assistant in a clinical setting, preferably a teaching hospital.
Required License or Certification

Valid NC Driver’s License required.
