Job summary

Ingalls Shipbuilding, a division of HII, seeks a supervisor to lead semi-skilled and skilled trades staff within its Mississippi shipyard. You will supervise, assign, coordinate and evaluate personnel, ensuring quality and productivity in shipbuilding operations.

Candidates must have HS Diploma/GED with 6 years outside machinery experience and at least 2 years in production supervision, or an AA degree with 2 years of outside machinery experience and 2 years in supervision; willingness to work

Qualifications

  • HS Diploma/GED and 6 years of Outside Machinery experience, with at least 2 years in production supervisory experience.
  • Apprentice Graduate/AA Degree and 2 years of Outside Machinery experience, with at least 2 years of production supervisory experience.
  • Must be willing and able to work any shift assigned.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises, assigns, coordinates and evaluates trades personnel by skill and experience.
  • Trains employees to improve quality and productivity; develops training procedures.
  • Breaks broad strategies into practical action plans; ensures plan execution.
  • Monitors budget and shifts; maintains compliance with drawings and procedures.

The Role

Supervises, assigns, coordinates and evaluates semi-skilled and skilled trades personnel according to their skill, experience and job knowledge. Supervises and trains employees to improve quality and quantity of work performed. Recommends training to enhance skill and productivity of employees, and assists in development of training procedures. Breaks broad strategies down to practical action plans and ensures employees are trained to perform these plans. Responsible for complying with all technical aspects of the job including adherence to all drawings, procedures, etc. Responsible for manufacturing, installation, operation, testing, and process operations that have a significant financial impact on the company's performance. Supervises qualified trades staff; monitoring job and budget performance for all shifts. Must possess comprehensive knowledge of the specific area of responsibility, and a working knowledge and understanding of the interrelationship and interaction of the other Trades, Projects, Shops and business processes. Must demonstrate managerial, analytical, organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills. Depending on area, specific technical, medical, and physical requirements may apply.

Additional common management responsibilities as listed in Shipbuilding Management Charter 0001 within command media (SBMC 0001) and applicants should review the Charter and policies and procedures before applying for position.

Must Have
  • HS Diploma/GED and 6 years of Outside Machinery experience, with at least 2 years in production supervisory experience. Apprentice Graduate/AA Degree and 2 years of Outside Machinery experience, with at least 2 years of production supervisory experience.
  • Must be willing and able to work any shift assigned.
Nice to Have
  • Strong working knowledge of all machinery aspects which are required to efficiently operate in a ship production environment. Understanding of how material and work are routed through the shipyard is preferred.
