Job summary

NAVAIR is seeking a Senior Scientific Technical Manager, Chief Engineer (CHENG) for Support Equipment (SE) and Aircraft Launch and Recovery Equipment (ALRE) at NAWCAD Lakehurst. This role leads SE/ALRE systems engineering policy and lifecycle governance across the Naval Aviation Enterprise, providing authoritative technical guidance for major programs and future capabilities.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the principal Technical Warrant Holder for SE and ALRE systems engineering across the Naval Aviation Enterprise (NAE).
• Be the expert in SE/ALRE systems engineering life-cycle policy, advising on major acquisition programs, sustainment strategies, and future capabilities.
• Identify and resolve fleet issues related to complex SE and ALRE.
• Provide expertise in all areas of the acquisition lifecycle of SE and ALRE programs.
• Lead and coordinate NAE SETR activities for NAWCAD Lakehurst and serve as ITRB member and SETR Chair.
• Provide technical authority for all SE and ALRE systems engineering and establish technical framework, standards, and best practices.
• Lead development and implementation of SE/ALRE systems engineering policy and processes, including requirements management, risk management, configuration management, and verification/validation.

Job description

You will serve as the Senior Scientific Technical Manager, Chief Engineer (CHENG) for Support Equipment (SE) and Aircraft Launch and Recovery Equipment (ALRE) Group for the Naval Air Warfare Center, Aircraft Division (NAWCAD).

Position Duties/Responsibilities

• You will serve as the principal Technical Warrant Holder for SE and ALRE systems engineering across the Naval Aviation Enterprise (NAE).
• You will serve as the expert in SE/ALRE systems engineering life-cycle policy, and provide authoritative advice that shapes major acquisition Programs, sustainment strategies, and future capabilities.
• You will identify and resolve real fleet issues related to complex and complicated SE and ALRE.
• You will provide expertise in all areas of the acquisition lifecycle (ideation, development, prototyping, testing, production, fielding, and in-service) of a broad range of programs across both SE and ALRE.
• You will lead and coordinate NAE Systems Engineering Technical Reviews (SETR) activities for NAWCAD Lakehurst and frequently serve as Independent Technical Review Board (ITRB) member and SETR Chair.
• You will provide technical authority for all SE and ALRE systems engineering, and establish technical framework, standards, and best practices for requirements, design, integration, test, certification, fielding, sustainment, and modernization.
• You will lead the development, implementation and improvements of SE/ALRE systems engineering policy and processes, including requirements management, risk management, SETRs, configuration management, and verification/validation.
