The General Education Teacher is responsible for providing engaging standards based instruction within a therapeutic educational environment The teacher works collaboratively with residential clinical and educational staff to support students academic progress behavioral success and overall treatment goals Teachers at Anderson Academy help students reconnect with learning while building confidence resilience self management skills and a positive vision for their future
Instruction & Student Learning Develop and deliver engaging standards based lessons aligned with student academic needs and educational goalsCreate daily weekly and long range instructional plansDifferentiate instruction to meet the diverse learning needs of studentsUtilize assessments classroom data and progress monitoring tools to inform instructionDevelop and maintain emergency lesson plans to ensure continuity of instructionFoster a classroom culture that promotes respect accountability growth and belongingSupport students in developing executive functioning organization self regulation and problem solving skillsProvide individualized or small group academic support when neededMaintain appropriate classroom structure routines and expectationsStudent Support & Behavioral Health Collaboration Develop positive and therapeutic relationships with students through consistent engagement and supportImplement trauma informed and relationship based practices throughout the school dayPromote positive behavioral interventions and help students develop healthy coping skillsCollaborate with therapists residential staff mentors and treatment teams to support student successAssist with crisis prevention de escalation and therapeutic interventions as appropriateModel professional behavior emotional regulation and effective communicationParticipate in the campus wide relationship based philosophy of careEducational Records & Documentation Maintain accurate educational records and student documentationComplete required reports progress summaries report cards and educational updates within designated timeframesAssist with educational transition planning and the transfer of records between Anderson Academy and community schoolsUpdate student educational files and maintain required documentation related to educational servicesSupport compliance with educational standards policies and agency requirementsTeam Collaboration Actively participate in staff meetings treatment team meetings Child and Family Team meetings discharge planning meetings and other interdisciplinary meetings as assignedCollaborate with families guardians school districts and community partners to support student successWork effectively as a member of a multidisciplinary teamMaintain open communication with school administration and leadership

Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or equivalentDemonstrated ability to provide instruction classroom management and positive student engagementStrong communication organization and interpersonal skillsAbility to work effectively within a multidisciplinary treatment environmentAbility to maintain professional boundaries and model positive behaviorAbility to successfully complete all required training and agency requirementsPreferred Qualifications North Carolina Teaching LicenseEligibility for North Carolina educator licensure or residency licensureBachelors degree in Education or a related fieldExceptional Children EC CertificationExperience supporting students with IEPs emotional and behavioral needs or learning differencesExperience teaching in alternative education residential treatment behavioral health or therapeutic educational settingsExperience using trauma informed educational practicesExperience collaborating with families clinical teams and community partners
