Role Summary
As a General Dentist at SFCHC, you will play a crucial role in delivering quality dental care to our patients. Your responsibilities will include diagnosing and treating dental diseases while placing a strong emphasis on patient education and preventive care. You will work in a supportive environment that values collaboration, compassion, and community service.
Key Responsibilities
- Educate clients on preventative dental care and the causes and treatment of dental problems.
- Treat oral diseases and collaborate with primary care providers to develop comprehensive medical/dental treatment plans.
- Examine teeth, gums, and related tissues using dental instruments, x-rays, or other diagnostic equipment to evaluate dental health, diagnose diseases or abnormalities, and formulate appropriate treatment plans.
- Perform oral exams, restorations, extractions, endodontic therapy, and prophylactic work, ensuring the delivery of high-quality dental services.
- Diagnose and treat diseases, injuries, or malformations of teeth, gums, or related oral structures, providing preventive or corrective services as needed.
- Write prescriptions for antibiotics and other medications as part of the treatment process.
- Design, make, or fit prosthodontic appliances, such as bridges or dentures, and provide fabrication instructions or prescriptions for dental assistants.
- Refer patients for oral surgery for complex cases involving oral diseases, grafting, biopsies, and oral cavity resections.
- Recruit, hire, and train dental assistants, overseeing the day-to-day functions of the dental clinic.
- Implement Quality Improvement/Quality Assurance (QI/QA) procedures, conduct assessments, monitor outcomes, and update procedures to achieve and surpass agency thresholds.
- Implement new Dental Electronic Health Record software/system to enhance clinic operations.
- Attend all staff and Dental Team meetings to ensure alignment with clinic goals and objectives.
- Complete required documentation in the Electronic Health Record (EMR) to ensure timely billing and compliance.
- Respond to inquiries and grievances from clients, volunteers, and community members, maintaining a high level of customer service.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support the overall mission of the SFCHC.
Qualifications
- A valid license to practice dentistry in California is required.
- Must have current DEA registration and CPR certification.
- A minimum of one year of experience in general dentistry or one year general practice residency
- Knowledge of EMR, especially Epic Wisdom
- A commitment to ongoing education and adherence to dental CE requirements as specified by California state regulations is essential.
- Experience working with the LGBTQ community and an understanding of its unique needs is important.
- Familiarity with HIV/AIDS, STIs, substance use, mental health, social services, and the disparities faced by communities of color is necessary.
- Proficiency in both verbal and written English is required.
- Must obtain TB clearance (within past 12 months) and complete background check upon hire.
- Current with vaccinations including latest Covid-19 vaccine and seasonal flu, and able to provide proof.
Preferred
- Experience working in an FQHC or other type of Community Health Center.
