Job description

Summary:

Under the general supervision of the Chief Dental Officer, the dentist provides professional dental services to patients, focusing on correct oral hygiene and dental care.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  1. Participate as part of a multidisciplinary team in patient care at the MCHWC (and possibly its satellite locations).
  2. Perform oral examinations using X-ray and other specialized equipment as required.
  3. Make diagnoses and perform restorations, extractions, prophylactic, and other dental work as necessary.
  4. Perform dental operations and treat mouth diseases.
  5. Refer cases requiring complex oral surgery and medical attention.
  6. Consult with physicians regarding medical-dental issues.
  7. Instruct patients on oral hygiene and dental care.
  8. Instruct dental assistants in dental procedures.
  9. Record and maintain documentation of clinical services, supplies, and materials used, and prepare related reports.
  10. Participate in resolving patient grievances.
  11. Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and those set by grant funders.
  12. Attend staff meetings, in-service trainings, and other educational sessions as required.

Qualification Requirements:
Education and/or Experience:
  • D.D.S or D.M.D degree.
  • Current license to practice in California.
  • Valid DEA Certificate.
  • Current CPR (BLS) certification.
  • Experience working in outpatient health clinics or similar settings, with community health centers serving underserved populations preferred.
  • Experience developing and implementing quality improvement programs.
  • Experience with community health programs and staff supervision.
  • Proficiency with Electronic Health Records (EHR) systems.
  • Passion for community health issues and mission-driven work.

  • Excellent customer service and communication skills.
  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal skills.
Reasoning Ability:
  • Strong organizational skills; problem-solving and conflict management abilities.
  • Ability to understand and apply policies, guidelines, and procedures.
Equipment and Machinery:

Includes fax machine, copier, computer, telephone, calculator, Microsoft Word/Excel, EHR system, and other relevant software.

Physical Demands:
  1. Stand, walk, or sit depending on daily needs; approximately 30% standing and 70% sitting.
  2. Occasional physical activities: bending, stooping, squatting, climbing stairs, pushing, pulling, reaching.
  3. Exposure to communicable diseases, body fluids, toxic substances, radiation, and other clinical environment hazards.
  4. Frequent activities: writing, typing, grasping, finger dexterity.
  5. Lifting over 10 pounds occasionally; less than 10 pounds frequently.
  6. Visual requirements: reading reports, working on computers, seeing small details.
  7. Hearing requirements: communicating over phone and in person.
Travel Requirements:

Occasional use of personal transportation for site visits and meetings; potential travel to other MCHWC locations.

Work Environment:

Moderate noise level typical of clinical settings.
