Job Summary
The role of a General Dentist is to provide high quality, comprehensive dental care to patients of all ages in a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) setting. This role involves diagnosing and treating dental conditions, performing preventive and restorative procedures, and promoting oral health through patient education. The General Dentist collaborates with a multidisciplinary healthcare team to ensure high-quality, patient-centered care, and adheres to all regulatory, clinical, and operational guidelines. This position supports the mission of the organization by delivering equitable and accessible dental services to underserved populations.
Qualifications
- Graduate from an accredited dental school with Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) or Doctor of Medicine in Dentistry (DMD) degree.
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience as a General Dentist is preferred.
- Current, valid and unrestricted state dental license to practice dentistry in the State of California.
- Current Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) certificate and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
- Experience in community, rural health center or public health dentistry is a plus.
- Commitment to serving diverse and underserved populations.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with all members of the healthcare team.
- Familiarity and the ability to navigate with electronic dental and health records systems, such as OCHIN Epic, Epic Wisdom, etc.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively supervise staff and collaborate with colleagues, with the capacity to work both independently and as a part of a team within diverse environments and among a diverse workforce.
- Performs all duties with honesty, integrity, professionalism, and sound judgment.
- Knowledge of current dental practices and procedures, organizational policies, systems, and objectives.
- Demonstrate the ability in exercising initiative, problem-solving, and decision-making.
- Ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with medical, dental, and administrative staff, as well as patients and the public.
- Strong analytical and employee relations skills.
- Excellent writing, business communication, editing, and proofreading skills.
- Ability to interact effectively and in a supportive manner with persons of all backgrounds.

- Must have good computer skills using Microsoft Office and the ability to use Axis departmental systems.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities
- Lead initiatives to directly enhance patient well-being by providing accurate and timely diagnoses and delivering high-quality dental treatments, ensuring competent and precise care for all assigned patients.
- Provide leadership and direction to dental clinic staff to optimize overall clinic performance, ensuring the achievement of clinical, quality, and productivity goals, and meeting or exceeding all established standards of care.
- Ensure accuracy, efficiency, and appropriate confidentiality with patient charting and related recordkeeping and administrative functions as assigned.
- Ensure the delivery of all dental treatment and care is consistent with all regulatory, accreditation, and professional standards, including clinic policies and quality initiatives.
- Ensure all actions, job performance, personal conduct and communications represent the organization in a highly professional manner at all times.
- Uphold and ensure compliance and attention to all policies and procedures as well as the overall mission and values of the organization.
- Provide routine and emergency dental services, including diagnosis and treatment plans, general restorative procedures, crown and bridge construction, removable prosthetics, uncomplicated endodontics and minor oral surgery.
- Initiate and interpret radiographs.
- Refer patients for specialty care to other clinic programs or outside agencies as appropriate.
- Conduct follow-up patient care to monitor treatment outcomes, address ongoing dental needs, and ensure the continued improvement of patient health and satisfaction.
- Exercise professional judgment in the performance of services provided consistent with the organization’s policies and the standards of the dental profession.
- Demonstrate high degree of knowledge and competency in the practice of dentistry and associated charting requirements.
- Perform assigned dental tasks using high level of skills and ability.
- Utilize computer systems proficiently for accurate data entry, information retrieval, and maintenance of electronic patient records.
- Participate in staff meetings and attend other meetings and training events as assigned.
- May be required to perform other related duties, responsibilities, and special projects as assigned.
