Job summary

HireArt is seeking a General Counsel, Labor and Employment to counsel internal leaders on employment law matters and regulatory compliance. The role involves collaboration with internal teams and outside counsel to shape legal strategy for HireArt’s workforce across client engagements.

The successful candidate will bring deep knowledge of federal and state employment statutes, including FLSA, ADA, and FMLA, and will lead policy development, risk assessment, and strategic affairs from HireArt’s

Qualifications

• Active membership in at least one US state bar.
• 7+ years of experience practicing as an attorney.
• Experience with federal and state employment statutes (e.g., FLSA, ADA, FMLA) and California-specific laws.

Responsibilities

• Provide day-to-day guidance on employment law issues to internal stakeholders (terminations, performance management, investigations, leaves, accommodations).
• Advise on compliance with local labor laws, including California.
• Manage labor and employment litigation strategy with external counsel.
• Draft employment-related policies, agreements, and communications.
• Conduct legal research on wage and hour laws and related regulatory changes.
• Partner with leadership on corporate governance and transactional matters.

Job description

HireArt is seeking a General Counsel, Labor and Employment attorney to provide legal advice and counsel to our internal business leaders. HireArt sources, onboards, and employs workers who are assigned to work on behalf of HireArt’s clients. Our ideal candidate will apply in-depth knowledge of labor law and employment regulations to empower business leaders to make informed decisions regarding the management of HireArt’s workforce.

You’ll work collaboratively with both internal stakeholders and outside counsel to manage legal strategy at HireArt.

Core Responsibilities

• Provide day-to-day guidance on employment law issues to internal stakeholders, such as pending employee terminations, performance management actions, investigations, leaves of absence, and disability accommodations
• Advise internal stakeholders on compliance with relevant local labor laws, including the California market
• Manage legal strategy in partnership with external counsel on a diverse range of labor and employment litigation, including but not limited to individual claims regarding wrongful termination, wage and hour disputes, and class action claims
• Draft and edit employment-related policies, communications, agreements, and other documents as needed
• Conduct legal research and stay updated on changes in laws that may affect the company, particularly with respect to wage and hour law in the United States
• Partner with leadership on other corporate governance matters, developing legal strategy to protect the company’s interests
• Advise as needed on contracts, insurance policies, mergers, acquisitions, or other corporate transactions

Requirements

General Requirements:

• Active membership in at least one US state bar and eligibility to obtain registered in-house counsel status in New York (if required)
• 7+ years of legal experience as a practicing attorney
• Experience with federal and state employment statutes, including FLSA, ADA, FMLA, and California-specific laws
