Job summary

We Are CASA seeks a strategic General Counsel to oversee governance, risk management and compliance for the organization and its affiliate entities. You will advise senior leadership, manage nonprofit and advocacy-related legal matters, and guide policy, contracts, and governance best practices.

This role requires strong leadership, deep commitment to immigrant and workers’ rights, and experience with nonprofit governance and civil litigation.

Qualifications

• J.D. degree with a minimum of 8 years legal experience.
• Active membership in good standing with the Maryland State Bar.
• Significant legal experience supporting nonprofit organizations, labor and employment law, governance.

Responsibilities

• Serve as in-house legal advisor on governance, operations and strategic initiatives.
• Lead partnerships with external counsel and pro bono resources.
• Oversee organizational protection, compliance protocols and risk management across departments.
• Provide timely, practical legal guidance to support mission-driven decisions.
• Advise leadership on emerging legal risks and opportunities; develop proactive strategies.
• Support governance through board advisement, policy review, and contract management.
• Lead and coordinate responses to crises, investigations, and litigation when needed.
