Job summary
SVSU Saginaw Valley State University seeks an Assistant/Associate General Counsel to support the Office of the General Counsel in contracts administration, policy drafting, legal research, and compliance oversight. The role will assist University leadership, departments, and the Board of Control in complex matters and strategic initiatives.
The ideal candidate has a Juris Doctorate, Michigan bar admission or eligibility, and several years of broad legal practice, including contract negotiation
Qualifications
- Juris Doctorate degree from an accredited law school.
- Licensed to practice law in Michigan or admissible in Michigan within six months of hire.
- Minimum of five (5) years of broad general legal practice; or three (3) years with compliance or higher education focus.
- Experience reviewing, drafting, and negotiating contracts.
- Ability to synthesize complex information for diverse audiences.
- Strong communication of legal concepts to non-lawyers.
Responsibilities
- Review, draft, and negotiate contracts and affiliation agreements for the University.
- Advise departments on contractual rights, obligations, and risk.
- Research and interpret laws applicable to University programs and procedures.
- Advise on compliance investigations and legal issues.
- Monitor regulatory changes affecting University operations and update policies.
