Position Overview

The firm is seeking a Public Agency General Counsel Associate for a full‑time, hybrid position. This role involves providing comprehensive legal counsel to public agencies, including guidance on governance, regulatory compliance, land use, and risk management. The Associate will draft and review a wide range of legal documents, advise clients on water law and other public agency matters, and assist in resolving disputes affecting public sector clients.

Qualifications

• J.D. from an accredited law school and active membership in good standing with the State Bar of California
• Two to three years of experience providing general counsel‑type advice, preferably to public agencies or similar entities in California
• Familiarity with public sector laws and frameworks, including the Ralph M. Brown Act, California Public Records Act, and California Environmental Quality Act, is a plus
• Proven ability to draft and review complex contracts, ordinances, resolutions, and policies
• Strong legal research, writing, and oral communication skills
• High level of integrity, sound judgment, and demonstrated commitment to public service
• Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple matters and deadlines simultaneously
