Page Executive is seeking a General Counsel to oversee legal matters for a growing US retail footprint, based at the Charlotte, NC HQ. The role requires JD and active US bar, with experience in multi-state leasing, contracts, and cross-border collaboration with global teams.

You will guide senior leadership on strategic legal matters, manage external counsel, oversee governance, and ensure regulatory compliance while supporting business objectives.

Job description

The General Counsel will oversee all legal matters within the retail industry, providing strategic guidance and ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations. This role will work closely with senior leadership to support business objectives and mitigate legal risks.

Highly successful, expanding, global retailer opening new stores across the US. An exciting opportunity to join a growing business as they expand their US footprint across multiple locations and states. Permanent General Counsel role based at the US HQ office in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Description

General Counsel responsibilities include:

• Provide legal advice and guidance to the company and senior leadership team on a wide range of business and compliance legal matters.
• Draft, review, and negotiate contracts, leases, and other legal documents to protect the company's interests.
• Ensure compliance with all applicable laws and regulations in the retail industry.
• Manage relationships with external legal counsel as needed.
• Develop and implement strategies to mitigate legal risks.
• Represent the company in legal proceedings and negotiations.
• Oversee corporate governance and ensure proper legal documentation.
• Provide training and support to staff on legal matters and company policies.

Profile

The successful General Counsel should have demonstrable experience in:

• Juris Doctor and US state bar in good standing.
• Strong preference for experience in the retail industry or a similar sector encompassing leasing work, construction/ store fit-out contracts, employment matters for workforce across multiple states.
• Previous work for an international brand, working collaboratively with senior stakeholders and legal counterparts elsewhere in the world is preferred.
• Strong knowledge of corporate, compliance, and contract law.
• Excellent negotiation and communication skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and work under pressure.
• Demonstrated ability to provide strategic legal advice to leadership teams.
• Able to work from the office in Charlotte, North Carolina. The company is happy to consider candidates looking to relocate to the Charlotte, NC area.
