Gradient Financial Group seeks a General Counsel to lead legal and compliance for a family of financial services companies. You will advise executives, draft contracts, monitor regulatory changes, and guide mergers and strategic partnerships.

You bring a J.D., Minnesota license, and 1+ year of legal practice, plus strong research and policy-writing skills to support risk management and business growth within a collaborative, in-office-heavy environment with selective remote work.

Qualifications

• Juris Doctor degree required.
• Minnesota bar license in good standing required.
• 1+ years of experience practicing as an attorney required.
• Financial services or compliance experience preferred.
• Strong legal research and writing skills; ability to write effective policies and procedures.
• Experience with regulators (e.g., state insurance departments).

What You’ll Do

• Provide practical legal and compliance guidance to support business goals and minimize risk
• Draft, review, and negotiate contracts, business agreements, and corporate documents
• Monitor regulatory changes and lead updates to compliance policies and procedures
• Support strategic initiatives, including mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, and business partnerships
• Identify legal risks and develop solutions that balance compliance with business objectives
• Advise leadership and business partners on legal matters, regulatory requirements, and best practices
• Lead compliance initiatives, conduct legal research, and support internal reviews and investigations
• Develop and deliver legal and compliance training for employees and affiliates
• Manage legal projects, external relationships, and competing priorities

What You Bring

• Juris Doctor degree – Required
• Current license in good standing to practice law in Minnesota – Required
• 1+ years of experience practicing as an attorney – Required
• Financial services or compliance experience – Preferred
• Strong legal research and writing skills, and the ability to write effective policies and procedures
• Experience working with regulators, such as state insurance departments
• Sound judgment, with the ability to influence at a senior level and across teams
• Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines independently
