Job summary

Harvard University Central Administration (HUDS) is seeking a seasoned cook for 27 hours/week to prepare and plate menu items for campus dining and events. You will follow standardized recipes, supervise kitchen tasks, and contribute to a fast-paced, high-end catering environment.

The role requires a High School Diploma, 4+ years of experience, and ServSafe certification within one year. English proficiency and knife skills are essential.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Proficiency with the English language (speaking, reading, and writing).
• Minimum four years of related food preparation experience in hospitality.
• Some supervisory experience.
• Experience with large volume cook-chill processes and commissary production.
• Experience in high-end off-site catering.
• Ability to execute recipes with solid cooking methods and knife skills.
• Follow directions and maintain neat appearance per HUDS dress code.
• Proficiency with kitchen tools and equipment; basic math skills for gauges and scales.

Responsibilities

• Prepares and cooks menu items according to recipes and business needs.
• Reads and follows standardized recipes; delegates tasks respectfully.
• Tastes and evaluates food quality before service and reports concerns.
• Assists culinary team and may lead catered events under supervision.
• Keeps kitchen stocked and directs requisitions as needed.
• Instructs staff in proper use of kitchen equipment.
• Demonstrates proper sanitation practices and clean-as-you-go discipline.
• Records portion amounts and ensures proper storage per HACCP.
