Requirements
  • You must successfully pass a background investigation and drug test for federal employment.
  • Selective Service registration is required for males born on, or after, December 31, 1959. Those not registered should have an approved exemption on file.

  • Current OPLA attorneys must have completed two years of service with OPLA by the announcement closeout to be considered for this position.
  • You must be an active member in good standing of the bar of a U.S. state, a territory of the United States, or the District of Columbia.
Qualifications

Applicants should be able to produce quality legal analyses of complex issues, exercise sound legal judgment, prioritize, and work effectively independently or as part of a team. They should be detail-oriented, proactive, and possess strong communication skills tailored to the audience. Key characteristics include integrity, sound judgment, organizational skills, decisiveness, initiative, and excellent advocacy skills.

Experience in advising on civil litigation, coordinating with law enforcement, conducting legal research, and briefing senior attorneys is preferred.

Additional Requirements
  • Active bar membership in a U.S. state, territory, or D.C.
  • Disclose any political appointments within the last five years.
  • Possess a Juris Doctor degree from an ABA-accredited law school.
  • Be eligible for a possible student loan repayment incentive.

  • Must pass a background check and security clearance at the Top Secret / Secret level.
  • Pre-employment drug testing is required.
  • This position is bargaining unit represented by AFGE, Local 511.
  • Promotion potential to GS-15, subject to performance and agency guidance.
