Job summary

Vitol is seeking a motivated and technically curious AI Engineer to join its AI team in Houston. This hands-on role builds LLM-based automation solutions for energy and commodities trading, collaborating with end-users and stakeholders to drive real commercial value.

You will own delivery from day one, designing agentic AI workflows, developing AI Skills and MCPs, and working with frontline users to translate business needs into working solutions in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• Degree in a technical field with 3–5 years of professional experience in software, data, or AI engineering.
• Fluency in Python with clean, modular, well-documented code and engineering best practices.
• Hands-on experience with prompting, agentic patterns (tool use, function calling, MCP), and LLMs.
• Familiarity with Git/version-control workflows and Docker containerization.
• Experience with modern full-stack development practices and understanding end-user needs.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with end-users across trading, operations, and support to identify automation opportunities and develop tailored LLM solutions.
• Design and iterate agentic AI workflows to solve business problems.
• Develop production-ready prompts, AI Skills, and MCPs.
• Engage stakeholders regularly to gather feedback and refine solutions.
• Translate business problems into clear technical requirements, designs, and delivery plans.
• Document work clearly and contribute to the team's knowledge base.
