Job summary

Cummins Inc. in Troy, Michigan, seeks an Engineering School-to-Work (STW) Gear Process Technician to join the Corporate Gear Development team.

This student role provides hands-on exposure to gear manufacturing, engineering processes, product development, and technical project support in a collaborative lab environment. You will assist with bevel, hypoid, spur, and helical gears, help design and procure tooling, track prototypes, and work with gear engineers to improve processes while maintaining

Qualifications

• Currently pursuing an Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• Basic understanding of manufacturing processes.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, Outlook).

Responsibilities

• Support gear development activities involving bevel, hypoid, spur, and helical gears.
• Assist with design, procurement, and coordination of tooling and cutting tools.
• Track and expedite prototype components through internal and external sources.
• Support scheduling, documentation, and coordination of development, research, and lab activities.
• Assist in analyzing gear manufacturing processes, geometry, and quality inspection methods.
• Collaborate with engineers to support quality improvement and cost reduction initiatives.
• Participate in continuous improvement projects and best-practice implementation.
• Maintain a safe, organized lab environment and report technical data accurately.
