We are currently looking for a skilled Gear Machinist to join our manufacturing team. This is a direct hire opportunity offering an immediate start and a full benefits package provided by the company.

Core Responsibilities

In this role, you will be tasked with the creation of high-precision gear components such as splines, worm gears, spur gears, and helical gears using diverse machining techniques. Success in this position requires a strong ability to analyze technical blueprints, manage the setup and operation of both manual and CNC gear-cutting machinery, and validate the quality of finished products using specialized measurement tools.

• Manage the operation, setup, and continuous monitoring of various gear-cutting machines.
• Ensure production targets are met by manufacturing high-quality gears that strictly adhere to blueprint specifications and work orders.
• Help maintain high quality standards by conducting thorough in-process inspections to verify dimensional accuracy and material compliance.
• Optimize production efficiency by selecting the most appropriate fixtures, cutting tools, and machine settings for every task.
• Utilize technical documentation, including job travelers and blueprints, to execute precise manufacturing processes.
• Contribute to a safe and organized workspace by performing regular equipment maintenance and keeping the shop area tidy.
• Resolve technical challenges related to tooling, machine setup, or part quality as they occur.
• Promote a culture of safety and excellence by consistently following all established production and quality protocols.

Machinery and Instrumentation

You will utilize a broad range of manual and CNC gear-production equipment, such as shaping machines, hobbing units, and thread milling tools. Additionally, you will rely on standard shop tools and metrology instruments, including:

• Micrometers and calipers
• Manual and power-operated hand tools
• Various other inspection and machining apparatus

Work Location and Schedule

Kansas City, KS. This is a first-shift position, with the expectation of overtime as required by production needs.

Required Qualifications

• Completion of a GED or high school diploma.
• Preference given to those with technical training or certifications in industrial or machine technology.
• At least five years of practical experience in gear manufacturing, specifically focusing on machine setup and cutting.
• Prior experience working with manual gear-cutting equipment is highly desirable.
• Demonstrated ability to machine components from diverse materials like stainless steel, bronze, cast iron, nylon, and standard steel.
• Five years of professional experience utilizing precision metrology tools within a machining or manufacturing setting.
• We may consider candidates who possess a unique blend of technical training and equivalent hands‑on experience.
• Strong grasp of gear terminology, such as module, diametral pitch, pressure angles, and measurement-over-wires.
• Proven capability to configure gear-cutting machines, including adjustments to hob-heads, change gears, and tooling.
• Solid understanding of shop math, including trigonometry, geometry, and unit conversions.
• Expertise in using inspection tools like large-capacity micrometers and height gauges to ensure part precision.
• Ability to translate complex engineering drawings and manufacturing instructions into finished parts.
• Strong analytical skills to help the team resolve complex issues regarding tooling, setup, and production quality.
• Excellent communication skills to foster collaboration with supervisors and quality control staff.
• Ability to lift and transport materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
• Capability to remain standing or walking for the duration of the shift.
• Physical ability to perform frequent reaching, bending, and handling of heavy materials and tools.
